Felicia Parts in short supply?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My wife and I run a 1998 1.3 Felicia Hatchback which is now coming up to its' 15th birthday. I was informed recently by a local garage that spares for this car are now in short supply and I may have to resort to breakers yards to obtain them. As I am in my mid seventies and wife is in late sixties we wish to keep the old Felicia running as long as possible because of Hospital visits etc.. Can anyone advise of a good spares supplier in the South of England?

Hopefully,

Alan.

Hello Alan, it's normally rust that kills them, not the lack of spare parts... What specifically are you looking for?

Hi Alan, Tom's right in that corrosion will normally be the foe! I've had Fellys for around a decade or so & must admit haven't had too many problems getting hold of parts (I'm located around the south east corner of Kent). If you have on line access ebay/amazon etc can be useful places to start, coupled with searching for what you're looking for. In my neck of the woods there's a really useful little second hand parts dealer (VW/Audi) that I've used many a time when looking to source something quickly/cheaply! Not sure where you are but would be happy to forward the details. Sourcing out your local auto scappers will also be useful but can be a bit hit & miss as to what's available & quality!

If I can be of any more help please don't hesitate to get in contact.

Rob

Felicia's are VAG so they share a lot of parts with Volkswagen - for a lot of basic parts you could visit GSF www.gsfcarparts.com

I've never experienced any problems getting pattern or original parts but the car is now more than ten years out of production and as numbers dwindle parts can only get harder to get.

I would imagine that won't start to bite for at least another five years though.

One thing to bear in mind is that just because parts are no longer "on the computer" for a certain model of car it does not mean they are unavailable.

I have a 1976 SEAT 127 and service parts such as the oil filter, plugs, battery etc are available off the shelf at Halfords, but Halfords won't be able to tell you that.

Many thanks for all of your replies. Yes, it would appear to be the rust that is the big enemy. I can obtain most of the running gear such as brakes and suspension from German and Swedish (and Foreign) also engine parts, and the drive belt for the Felicia is the same as one for a Land Rover all but 6mm in length. I am of the opinion that I am going to have to replace the front wings next year but will see how it goes.

Meanwhile once again many thanks for all your replies.

Although I think most avenues have been covered in the replies already, I'll just add that as a relatively recent convert to Felicia (& Favorit) ownership I've been impressed with the availability and surprisingly low cost of spares through my local Skoda dealer. Admittedly this is only for service parts but I've asked about other bits and they told me it's always worth asking.

They're also giving me trade price as they're glad to see someone keeping older Skodas on the road. As as you're already experienced this part of Briskoda is a very helpful resource/community.

Hi,

Depending what you need I have some spare part from a Felicia that I broke. They're free and I'm in Kent too!

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Rob, nice to hear from a fellow Kentish man. I'd be interested to know what Felly parts you have from braking?

Cheers,

Rob ;)

Actually, no. Not in this case. The Felicia is a reskinned Favorit, which was designed before the Volkswagen takeover. The 1.3 should also be an old Skoda engine, sourced from the rear-engined cars from the 70s's and 80's. The 1.6 is, as far as I know, a Volkswagen unit. As is the 1.9 diesel, obviously.

But I can't imagine that parts supply for a 1998 Favorit would be drying up just yet.

Pattern wings are cheap enough (about £30 a side), they just bolt on, and the fit is pretty good. The real expense is if you're going to get them painted professionally. It's worth getting rid of the nasty black transit primer they come in and getting them painted from bare metal and coated well on the backs. Likewise, while you're looking at the inner wings, make sure they're derusted and coated.

If you can find someone who's not afraid to use a bit of ingenuity, we managed to make some arch liners off another car fit on my brother's truck, so hopefully that will help keep the rust at bay.
