A/C not working

Featured Replies

Excuse the spelling, I'm from Sweden so please read anyway, I need help

My A / C compressor is running (magnetic) and there is coolant in the system.

But it will not cool, I seem to remember that both cooling fans will turn on when the

A / C starts, and that makes them not on mine.

But if I unplug the connector to the low pressure switch (3 wires) then the fans running faster, but shuts down as soon as I replace the plug.

Anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

That's right, it's a Skoda Octavia 1999 model year

Inside the compressor pulley is the a/c magnetic clutch. Is the nut in the centre of the pulley turning?

Both fans should run at low speed when the a/c is on. Have you checked the fuses on top of the battery?

Both fans should run at low speed when the a/c is on. Have you checked the fuses on top of the battery?

I take a small mirror and look if the nut is spinning, but I'm sure that the hub works.

if the nut does not spin, then what is wrong?

All fuses are intact at the battery.

So my idea that the fans will spin extra fast when A / C is on, is incorrect.

Thanks for the help

Edit:

The centre nut is turning,

As the centre nut is turning, the shaft of the compressor is being driven. The fans should work on low speed but will run at high speed if required.

To diagnose the problem further, you need to know the pressure at the high and low ports. Although the compressor is turning it may be faulty. Other possible causes are a blocked drier, a faulty TXV or a blocked evaporator. If you have access to a manifold gauge set, then you can check the pressures and post back here.
