Another ugly little beast (don't read if you don't like Yeti competitor posts)

Featured Replies

Just called the local garage they are due to get some in to look at for the end of august.

IX35 refresh models pricing, etc are due about the same sort of time frame.

I'll be looking to change in the next 6+ months so i'm starting to look at getting my ducks in a row.

It might be another Yeti, we'll see how we go.

  • Ok, here's "the List" (again). You have five seconds to find the new Suzuki. ...and now five seconds to find Yeti!

  • Erm, Scottish people will drink Whisky and not Whiskey (which comes from Ireland, the USA or elsewhere).

  • I think if you like that shape of car then you're unlikely to buy a Yeti. I was looking at the Kuga or the CX-5 as my next car. I'd never even heard of a Yeti WhatCar website crossover section kept

My local dealer says September, and I'm on the list for an invite.

He's sent me some more details, but I can't upload them from an iPad.

I doubt this is an SX4 the blurb emphasizes this;

S-Cross concept car will not be a replacement for the Suzuki SX4 but an all-new model.

This suggests to me that the SX4 will continue, however, I suspect potential buyers will not look further than the S-Cross.

I owned an SX4 4Grip when they were first released but, even after owning 8 previous Suzuki models I didn't really come to love it like the previous ones. It's main failing for me was an A pillar that you had to peer around almost continuously. :wonder:

Then I discovered Skoda................

The SX4 S-Cross is not intended to replace the current SX4, this will be replaced by a smaller crossover next year. Personally, I wish that they had launched the smaller one first but hey ho.

Yes Fred, we had an SX4 prior to the Yeti and also found the A pillar to be verging on dangerous. More than once, particularly on roundabouts, the pillar would completely obscure a vehicle coming from the right. Apart from that it wasn't a bad car but not in the same league as the Yeti.

I've just been having a good look around and a sit in the new Peugeot 2008 crossover. Pleasantly surprised, if a little tight in places. Might be an option if the facelift Yeti is too expensive at the bottom end.

The 2008 has a really nice feel to the cabin. A pleasant place to sit.

The 2008 certainly looks to be fairly good value for money. I am fearful that Skoda will start pricing themselves out of their core value for money market if they're not careful and the competition in those sectors will be very fierce

So, bumping this now that it's out.

I've just got back from the local Suzuki dealer, having had a good look at the SX4 S-Cross.

First impressions are ok. The overall shape is a straightforward clone of the Qashqai. Not a bad looking car but nothing exciting or revolutionary at all, though it does have some nice details and the 17" wheels look nicely in proportion.

Inside, it's a pleasant spacious car - plenty of leg room even with the seats back and a decent boot. The rear headroom is pants with the sunroof though. 6 footers will be hitting the roof.

On the upside the sunroof is huge with it's double sliding pane.

The dash again is a little bland. Nothing to excite or depress, and while some of the plastics are a little cheap that brings me on to my next point. When you compare it to the other mid size crossovers, it's very reasonably priced. The top spec 2wd diesel has pretty much every toy you could ask for as standard and it's under £22k list price and should be cheap to run as well.

I'm going for a drive on Saturday so will see what it's like on the road.

As an aside, they are just referring to it as the S-Cross - obviously trying to distance themselves from the SX4 name.

I sat in a LHD one a couple of months ago and found it had less leg room in the front than my Roomster.

And I've now driven one, and very nice it is too.

It accelerates well, though a little bit noisier than my bravo. It handles and rides very well - really grippy through bends with supportive seats. On a 20 mile drive it did 60mpg indicated which is great on a brand new engine.

The only downside to the car is the stereo which sounds pants which is a real shame.

The more better compitition the merrier, as it will keep Skoda on their toes.

Nowt worse than a manufacturer getting complacent and lazy.

AND it means I stand a better chance of haggling a keen deal on a Yeti.  :bandit:
