Which type of boost gauge?

Featured Replies

Which type of boost gauge will work on the Fabia, a vacuum setup or stepper motor setup or does it not matter? Thanks

It doesn't matter. Vacuum setup is likely to be simpler IMO.

Follow any guide on here.

I fitted a vacuum one to mine at the weekend. Need a anti buzz kit for it though as the needle is flickering abit and it buzzes on full boost :( easy to fit though

Never ever had a buzzing boost guage - standard fit is to T off one of the boost pipes, or even off the inlet manifold itself, My EGR delete has a T built in to it which is useful.

Quite a common thing now I've googled it, something to do with the air flow and needs restricting. My rs turbo one was sound

Bit of wadding inside the pipe should muffle it a bit. I need to do the same with my manifold pressure gauge as that ticks with the exhaust pulses.

What sort of wadding can I use? The no buzz kit is a fiver so was going to get that or try putting some brake pipe in the tubing to restrict it

It's usual to fit a brass (or even plastic) restrictor "pill". A plug with a small hole in it. Sometimes built in to a brass nipple you screw into the boost pipework.

where is that from mate just incase I need to buy one ?

I was just going to shove a small piece of foam or something in the pipe. Should do enough. Just needs to be fairly solid, but also porous.

Go to a pet/fish shop and buy a small airline clamp/inline valve for about a quid and job done :)

This is it on ebay dude

That sounds like a good idea! Will go to pets at home tomorrow and try it and report back

Either use a coup,e of cable ties on the tube to restrict the buzz or a roll up ciggy filter in the end of the tube.

Tried cable ties no joy

Try more further down the pipe and closer to the gauge, I used something like 10 in the end

so you have just cable tied round the pipe up near the gauge and it's stopped the buzzing? Bit clueless as to what's going on here lol.

Yeah basically, put 1 cable tie about 3 inches from the connection on the engine side (top plastic hose) then around 6 to 8 on the hose in 1 inch increments from the gauge in the car. It might help if you do the gauge side with the engine running so you can tighten the cable ties as you're revving the engine so you don't tighten them too much

I've got one about 6" from the top boost pipe and one about 1.5" from the gauge but they didn't do anything. Will try adding more but the pipe is quite a solid rubber piping so doesn't really do much. That's why I was thinking of putting abit of brake pipe in there

Finally sorted my buzzing get gauge and fluttering needle! Bought a in line fuel filter for £1.80 and fitted that in the engine bay which helped abit but not totally then put some brake pipe in the line a few inches from the gauge which didn't do alot so then put cotton wool and brake pipe there and it was alot better so I then put abit more cotton wool after the in line fuel filter and it's pretty stable now. Don't think it's slowed the gauge down or if it has only slightly but nice to have no buzzing or flickering.

Anyway this is my gauge and where I put it, quite like it down there as it doesn't catch your eye as you drive but it's fairly easy to look at (for what I want it for anyway)
