Knocking from near-side rear

Featured Replies

Bit of a difficult one to describe this.

As you're driving normally and going over a slightly bumpy road surface you can hear a constant hollow squeaky knocking coming from the rear near-side. It's about where the door leather meets the seat back leather.

If I aim for drains and holes I can't make the sound happen. I can't work out if it's just the leather squeaking together, or it's the rear strut or something.

Is the mk II Octavia hatch known for any particular bushes going on the rear? Could it just be the leather squeaking? I've tried hand-bouncing the car and I can't hear anything. Even sitting in the back while being driven makes me none the wiser.

Cheers again.

As above, cheap fix if its one of these:)

There was also a problem which Wardy had and documented but I cant find it now. I had it too and it turned out to be a loose suspension arm bolt. Have you had your bump stops or shocks replaced recently? If so it could be that.

It sounds like its in the boot or on the back seat but its only when I stripped the trim and sat in the back while my Dad drove it that I realised it was under the wheel arch.

Easy fix - just need to take off the wheel and some screws in the wheel arch liner and tighten the bolt. I wouldn't leave it if it is that, it needs to be tight obviously!!

Noise really seems to be coming from the top of the strut area.

I'll get the trim off and have a look. Is it likely to be the top mount nut loose? Does this happen much? Or just likely a knackered strut?
