October Track day @ Oulton Park Tuesday 8th October

Featured Replies

Valentines day? :D  How strict is their novice only categorisation?

Who loves you baby?

Have the clocks changed back by then or still dark nights??  Make for a short day if it is still as now.

  • Fantastic day at Oulton Park, really good to meet up with you all, some old acquaintances and some new.    I can report there were no major issues, the Mongrel has a bit of boost trouble but Jason i

Cheap, but sessioned so less track time.

So swings and roundabouts compared to a open pit lane day imo :)

They probably won't let me in with a stripped out Golf and bucket seats..

As for the novice, I have only done two tack days, one how fast and a blast at Castle Coombe so technically fit the criteria.

Sessioned, I don't mind this as 6, 20 minute sessions is probably the same as what I did when we were there in October.

My only worry is that I will be starting my turbo build in January and it won't be ready, I would have to use the Fabia..

I could claim I have only done one half day at Oulton Park before so on that basis am a novice.  I know I don't know the circuit well at all....

Are we booking it then Jason?  Hopefully it will be the maiden outing for the Golf + Turbo!!  More testing than racing.

Hmm, 3 months to get the car fixed then

What have you got to do to your car cossie?

Get it to drive in a straight line

Get it to drive in a straight line

I see, maybe you need one of these, the yellow tape at the top means you are travelling straight ahead    :bandit:

I am interested but am more concerned about qualifying for it as I done a lot more than 3 trackdays, just not at Oulton.

Sadly that won't work otherwise i'd have done it :D

Good luck with it mate.

My Golf pulls to the left on the road but runs straight on track, I also have 1' toe out on the fronts to help with turn in and the rears are set to straight ahead, although I have been told by Ray Grimes the instructor from the Oulton Park outing that 1/2-1' toe out on the rears will also make for better turn in.

Time will tell when we are back out next time.

Mine drives straight on part throttle, but as soon as there is any real load, it tries to drag me off the road to the left.

It happened during the Forge day, the bottom arm came loose during the 2nd session and the car started to pull.

Since had the arm tightened up which didn't fix the issue, replaced the front bush (but there was nothing wrong with the old 1 as it was only a week old), and now replaced the subframe (which turned out to be fooked), but still the problem is there (although not quite as bad).

So I think the wavetrac is fooked, but got a couple of things left to check before I have the box removed, stripped and the diff sent off to be checked over, but with the cold and wet weather lately, I don't feel like lieing under the car to mess about with it.

Just stumbled across you tube clip of the Guy in the red Fiesta ST. Unfortunately not the best ending.

Good shot of a Pasty boy too!

Nobody wants to end a day like that.

Saw a Skyline do exactly the same behind me at Brands, lose it a bit, over correct a bit and then swing round into the barrier.

Nice bit of Pasty footage though.

We had a smash today at the ranges, it was going to be a full on event but only 4 cars went in the end so a none event really, just before home a Peugeot 106xsi took a tumble, three rolls to be precise, flat out in 4th gear, the driver and passenger were ok and walked away.

Any open track day I usualy go home between 2pm and 3pm.

After that people get tired and make mistakes in my experience.

I usually break something on my car by about 3pm, so i'm usually out of the way when that happens lol

This was just a testing day, a shake down before the rally season gets under way, the Pug was entered in the north west stages too, won't be going now.

He got the left wheel on the grass, car twitched, went right and hit the bank and went into roll mode! this is the result as you see above.

This is when even basic motor sport gets expensive. Always sad to see a smashed up car.

Take it the pug isn't covered by any insurance?

No Mr Rooney, this was a club test day, when I told you about it at least 17 cars were going, on the day 4 went, this Pug, a MK1 Escort, a Mk 2 Escort with a duratec 360bhp engine and a fancy electronic launch/traction control set up and an old RS2000 MK 2 that broke its steering after only a few runs.

It was cold, and quite slow really with only one car running at a time!

 No Insurance at all.

Ouch, big shame that. Poor bloke.

I had been off on that same piece of grasscrete earlier in the day. Kept it straight though, fortunately.

I'd go back to Oulton, it was great fun.

Me to i had quite a moment there i found this corner the most difficult to master. poor guy.

I agree with mr fox after 3pm you could see quite a few drivers making little mistakes. I was knackered after a day on the track.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ouchy

I had thought i might not have given him enough room to get past and get into the apex which was why he ran wide and why he lost it and why he ploughing into the armco.

However i got right out of his way :phew:

Nice to see the panic wipers kicking in mid-spin though :D
