Smashed Sump Octavia

Featured Replies

I hit a speed hump (the tabled kind with entry and exit ramps) a bit too hard on Thursday. It was early morning with the sun shining straight at me, so I didn't see it until it was too late.

As a consequence I have cracked the sump :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

It is made of die cast alloy rather than pressed steel, which would have just dented, which I guess has shattered / split. It looks like I have just caught the back of the sump where the drain plug is.

Car has been recovered to the nearest Skoda dealer, as it is still under warrenty. They can't do the repair for two weeks as they are too busy. The nearest other dealer to them has recently burn't down, so they are rammed with work.

Sorry to hear that mate, yes it is a problem, you really must be careful with the underside of the octy vrs, i have hit mine many times in the past on speed bumps. The first week of ownership i hit one of them poles used to block parking spaces (the type that folds down to the ground), the bang was so loud i thought i had ripped the whole underside of the car off, and that was at 10mph. Get the sump cover its worth having.

Cracked sump on my old SLX TDi......4 years ago cost me approx

i cracked my sump a little while ago and it cost me about

There are some metal engine covers available from the dealers.

These could help pretect the sump.

They can get rather expensive , but could be worth a look in to if you wanted prevention rather than cure!

I think TaviaRS had a full metallic sump guard on his RS. Not particularly cheap, but then at least, the sheet of metal took the hit rather than the sump hidden just above it. That option was the only one considered after numerous airbourne moments I think :D

Sump is about

Happened to me in my first octy, painfull experience!

We're trying to get a GB sorted on the Furby, same problem. Worth considering the same for the Octy or is the price of the dealer item ok?

If you really want to raise the ride height why not fit Octavia 4x4 suspension?

Sump guard well worth it...I keep meaning to do mine.

Still have memories of a call pitted with hang on...wruuuuuup sssh thwack and a giggling 30 somthing "I love my sump guard"...

As to the tray departing. Mine did ages ago and I've not missed it yet, as to it failing on the road, well if the dealer is offering to fix his bodge, might be worth a word in his ear...unless you asked him to bodge..oh complexity.

I hate bumps too.

My sump was

Probably asked and posted elsewhere before...

Does any have the part numbers etc for the Skoda Octy engine and gearbox protector?

Many thanks! I'm thinking of getting these fitted :)

Also any piccies... :D

I think that the 4x4 suspension set up is different from the 2wd cars so the two aren't compatible. Correct me if I'm wrong though as it may be the answer I'm looking for.

The rear suspension of the 4X4 is completely different, ie subframe cross member, trailing arms, track control arm and stabiliser versus rear beam axle with ARB/stabiliser for 2WD.
