Dynatwist Cai

Featured Replies

Fitted a Dynatwist CAI purchased from Badger5.

Fitting was pretty easy apart from the intake pipe. The is about double the size of the standard part and wouldn't fit into the hole inthe inner wing..........this would need some cutting so, I used a longer length of flexi pipe and ran it in down the side of the battery next to the inner wing and just behind the headlamp.

Did try out the re-adaption thing where you take the battery off for a few minutes then turn on the iginition without starting the engine. Do know whether this had any effect but all seems ok.

So what's the upshot? Response and pick-up are much better low down which are particular bug bears with my RS. Induction noise is more audible and you can hear the DV venting. Neither is too loud and are quite subtle.

Will be checking out response at higher speeds over the weekend. ;)

Here's a pic of the install:

Is the induction noise very loud or just slightly louder than standard?

Look very pretty though :D

Oh and does it come with all the piping?

Not as loud as Dave's but you can hear it. "More subtle" is a good description and just what I wanted. Also get a subtle induction roar.

Comes with all piping, j clips, cable tie; even the mini filter is supplied.

Must admit it is a bit tight in there and it would probably sit better if the pipe before from the "bucket" going to the MAF were a little shorter; will play around with it's siting when I have some time.

That said I'm pleased with it.

Looks very nice. Prices?

 very shiny :D

We'll expect a full report after the weekend then.

See CarpBoy (if you're reading this) - that's what a proper sized engine bay looks like - no shoehorn required ;)

What's that thing that looks like a little green cup-cake, next to the filter cover?

Whereas as I have a "bucket", Steve (carpboy) has got a "dustbin" filter housing. ;):D

That said the "bucket" still takes a fair bit of space. Mine definately sounds different to Steve's.

Just been reading some previous mails and I may well cut the inner wing and use the standard intake route.

At the mo. my install of a large diameter and long pipe is good for low down pick-up/response. The original routing would give a shorter pipe which is better for power.

This pipe was part of the original standard airbox and I think it recirculates air to the petrol tank.(????)

I think the majority of CAI requires this mini filter.

doesnt the metal get hot?

Haven't actually felt the cannister but I read somewhere (CupraNet) it does but that it isn't a problem i.e. air temp.

Bill Brockbank could give a better answer.

choices, choices, choices which one to go for?

ABD CAI from Impossible Perrformance or Dynatwist CAI from Badger5?

The reason I went for the Dynatwist was that it wasn't going to be too loud (induction noise and DV venting). I can say that it is quieter than the ABD one.

I also chose it because it is different and gives everyone a another choice dependant on your requirements/circumstances.

Hi SkodiRS,

Please let us know what you think of the new CAI after this weekend. I would like to know how it performs at top end? There has been talk of the CAI performing well at the lower end of the rev range but there is a measured loss of power at the higher/top end rev range.

What bothers me is the kit didn't without some hacking about as mentioned by you. The kit should fit without the need to by or modify bits (or I am expecting too much?) The kit suppiled by IP I assume fits without the need to modify bits?

P.S does Badger5 have a webiste?

Yep...testing starts from when I leave the office in an hour. ;):D

Windows down..........:D

Check links page for Badger5; there is one. Would say though it's no the best though. Is better to give him a call....except he's travelling through Belgium at the moment (as I found out calling him on his mobile phone).

Phone number is: 01453 827936 or 07976 800775

Testing complete.

CAI has definately improved low end response and pick-up. Top end seems to have more pull.

Acceleration from 80mph is real good (it was before but just seems better now). This was done on the uphill sections of the M3 (the one by J6 is a good one).

All done in yesterdays 30+ degrees temperatures.

My engine is lazy on low end pick-up so I'm really pleased that the CAI has much improved this and that top end hasn't been dulled but enhanced.

So   from me.

Just to reiterate all I have done I removed the original airbox and fitted the CAI and routed the new air intake pipe down the side of the battery and just below the headlamp. I also took off a battery connection for a few minutes, reconnected and turned on the ignition (without starting engine). Apparently this does some re-adaption thing(??).

Don't know what the figures are but I'm just pleased with the way the car drives.:D Unfortunately my "testing" has highlighted my feelings that the front end is too soft.

Doh! This slope is well slippery!:D
