Did I just damage my Clutch?

Featured Replies

So I just reversed up my Brother-in-laws very steep driveway and rode the clutch a fair bit. Cue horrible burning smell. Released handbrake, drove off and parked in a more sensible place.

Cooling down now, then I'll pop out in it and see if anything is slipping.

Likelihood of having done some serious damage?

If I HAVE damaged the clutch, is that a full Flywheel and Clutch replacement? Or can plate just be replaced?

Car is a PD130 2004 1.9 Estate. 136,000m not sure when Clutch was last done as have only owned it for a year.

Hoping I've 'got away with it', not sure if a bad burning smell automatically means damage?

Ngggrghhh.

It will be fine

Just took a bit of life out of it but it'll be grand

As above should be fine, just taken some miles off the life of it, I once used the works Transit van to push a bus about half a mile back to the depot, by the time we arrived the clutch was smoking and slipping like hell, the next morning it was fine and is still going two years later

I reversed an astramax van 1/4 mile up a steep dirt track, the burning smell was terrible but it was fine for at least the next year.

Cheers guys. Off to try it out :)

Might slip a wee bit to begin but be gentle and after a few hundred miles it will be fine
