iPhone cradle

Featured Replies

Has anybody installed their iPhone into their car yet??

I have a Brodie cradle and a holder which was designed for the octy II but with the change in dash I can not put it back in.

Could do a vent mount but think they are a bit messy.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure Brodit will have one out soon.

Have you contacted them?

Not yet.

Only got the car yesterday!!!

Thanks. Not sure I like air vent mounts.

Will get used to car, and then see.

My iPhone sits in the stowage compartment, the phone functions, contacts etc all appear and are fully controllable on the Amundsen and multi function steering wheel and the music is the same via the Mitusumi connection. I wouldn't want to be able to read texts or emails whilst I was driving so a mounting bracket wouldn't be of any benefit to me at all.

You can move it so it sits between the airvents, it works great with Navi and phone because it is so high on the dash

I spend of time sitting in traffic, and although not good practice, I do check emails etc.

Maybe my new car is telling me I shouldn't!!!

I suppose now the car tells me not to forget my phone, I won't !!

I was quite impressed with the iphone connectivity today as watched a film on Amundsen system today while waiting for mrs and kids. Mixed with the canton system it was quite a good way to kill some time!!

Can you watch films on Amundsen ? I thought  it was only on Columbus...

Yes, once iphone is connected via mitsumi connector the option to select music or video is shown, select video, select films and away you go. Definitely an Amundsen system because I wasn't going to pay the extra £800 for the Columbus!!

Oh No. I haven't spec'd my car with Mitsumi Connector :wall: . Can we play videos using SD cards ? Or by USB ? :wonder:

Going a little off original topic, which is my bad, so sorry original poster!!

Ok, I take it your to late into the order for an additional option? I have no idea if it will play via SD? :wonder: I suppose it depends if the format the film is put on SD card is recognised by the reader in glovebox and allows a play option in the Amundsen? The Amundsen manual lists AUDIO codec formats mp3,wav,avi,wma,asf,aac,m4a,m4b,m4p,mp4,m4v,3GP,ogg,oga,ogx,ogv,ogm. IMAGES supported, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, tiff, gif. i'm no expert with this but i'm sure someone will know?

Going back on topic a bit...

If a bracket is used for mounting an iphone I take it it would mean that you would not be able to plug into the mitsumi connector? The lead would be to short to reach any place for use by a phone mounting bracket, assuming of course the mitsumi option has been specced and they don't do a longer lead of course? :wonder:

With the Mitsumi connection all functions of an iPhone are controllable through the multimedia - so I would have thought a mounting bracket would be redundant?

Wouldn't that hide the vent control and the hazard light switch?

I am about to order one myself, having been very happy with Brodit in the Audi for 4 years (and 3 different phones!)..

I too have used a Brodit angle mount bracket for my Snooper in the Superb II for the last 4 years but they don't seem to do the same mount for the Octy III yet. I have re-used the Superb II bracket for now, it fits ok but not quite as solid a fixing as in the Berb and the bracket partially covers the passenger side air con display, but it does the trick, better than the vent mount option imo.

Ah - understand - I missed the "the same mount" in your original.

@Matt.  Just finishing off the Brodit conversation since I have just fitted mine.  I have it to the left hand end of the driver's side vent.  There is still plenty of air flow, I can adjust the direction and, though I can't see the main on/off control, I can easily operate it out of sight (if I even wanted to) and the hazards switch..

A few pics including my fairly large Galaxy Nexus (4.65" screen).

Plenty of phone-specific mounts on Amazon.  Obviously a spring loaded mount that clips on the vents would be cheaper, but I like the Brodit system. Really well made.

This looks ok for a wireless install but for me, the Snooper needs a power supply after about an hour so the old Superb mount you see in post 17 does me just fine for now but I would pay for a new one if they brought out one specially designed for the Octy III as the low level angle mount keeps all the wires away from the audio screen. My Blackberry also fits just fine in the simply clever holder or I leave it in my jacket pocket and the Bluetooth does the rest, no need to be checking emails or text on the move, and I am using a 32GB SD card for audio media!

Yes, good points. I might occasionally use a power supply, and it will just have to go across the screen. Location of the 12v supply is a pain though - why not closer to the ash tray cubby? Put a 12v female in the socket and it sticks up a lot and gets in the way. Will probably just use a USB cable into the socket in the console for charging phone now and again.

Yep, agree about the 12V socket position, I am thinking about running an extension from the one in the boot to under the drivers seat to avoid the same issue you mention, unfortunately, when I use the USB for the Snooper, it thinks I am connecting it to a PC and will not charge! The Superb used to have one 12V socket in the front ashtray and one in the rear console so better for keeping cables out of the way, perhaps we need to start a thread about things we like and things we dislike, as they have got over in the Superb II forum!

Haha (A4 had one in front ashtray, one under the arm rest, one in the back, AND one in the boot!!).

On the bright side, my sister is loving her new car, having bought mine from the lease company.
