Can't beat a good ol' placebo..!

I was going to clean mine but old tale of dont fix what ain't broken comes into mind.

I've seen a fair few people complain that their mpg etc has dropped or they've had issues after cleaning.

Besides I've got an EGR delete kit on the way :)

I do want to take off completely but have read and heard the ASZ engine is a bit of a pig? (EML and shudder valve)

And I've done it to my previous fiesta diesel and can't say as I've had a drop, just stays the same if anything, to which I would imagine will be the same.

Just keep it clean for the engine =]

Its the BLT that has the anti shudder valve mate, the ASZ kit is a bit cheaper and simpler to do.

Isn't the anti-shudder valve the big throttle-like disc, edge-on nearest the camera in your first two pics? The thing, in fact, that is controlled via the nipple you snapped.

So the ASZ doesn't have a shudder valve?

Correct

Mine wasn't quite as bad as yours but I was disappointed to find no difference in response of the car and/or fuel economy improvements from replacing with a totally clean EGR. Glad you've noticed a positive change!

So many different things have been said,

Not going to lie I'm a bit hesitant to do it

Tbh in reality it is probably a placebo. But I do feel good and better for doing, knowing that the gunk has gone for the time being.

Will check the fuel side of things but can't say as I'm expecting it to be any different

Correct

So the only thing to worry about when fitting an egr delete to an ASZ engine is the EML coming on? Which can be mapped out later on? No ASV or cooling pipe?

Correct, AFAIK there is no VRS that comes with an EGR cooler the same as the Golfs.

Mapping out as its put can be acheived in VCDS by adjusting some settings detailed in this thread on Seat Cupra dot net.

I just followed the online guide and can confirm it works.

This is the guide

* To perform the following adaptations (except idle) you need to use the Login function.

* Enter 12233 as a Login code.

* Misuse of some of the adaptations can lead to engine failure.

* This is done at your own risk!

* Note that the EGR setting is for off-road use only...

[select]

[01 - Engine]

[Login - 11]

Enter 12233 to activate special adaptations,

[Do It!]

[Adaptation - 10]

[Channel 003]

Give the throttle a tiny press and keep it like that.

You will see that it currently reads around 220 mg/h

Enter the new value 33768 / replacing the default

[Test]

Observe the "test value" field to make sure the adaptation setting is acceptable.

[save]

You will see the this figure go up to around 330 mg/h and the % drop.

FYI I have also used a blank and blank both parts of the pipe running from the EGR to the Manifold.

+1 to this ^^^^

I did that when i bought a BLT turbo and tried to get it to fit to an ASZ engine.

It leaves the EGR in place, meaning all the vac pipes stay connected and get the correct readings so no CEL light.

The fact it cost £13 rather than £65 and meant i didn't have to feck about with cutting up and jubilee clipping boost pipes is also a bonus.

In thoery it shoule mean the engine runs better (as it'll jsut be getting pure air rather than the air + exhaugst gas mix, and with no exhaust gases flowing through the the boost pipes they should stop seeping black gunk all over the place

Thanks for the info guys, really appreciate it!

Think ill go with the blanking plates, cheaper and less hassle with unwanted lights on the dash. Ill give it a good clean while I'm at is as I'm planning to do the elephant mod at the same time.
