Aircon growl

Featured Replies

Picked up my Yeti on Friday and have been putting it through its paces this weekend. Generally very happy although there are a few niggles. Creaky windows all round, but I understand some Gummi Pfledge should help that - is that the current recommended weapon of choice?

The more annoying issue is the growl that the Climatronic aircon makes. When I test drove the car, I'm not sure the aircon was on - maybe just the fan, so I didn't notice this. However now I can't help but notice it. I test drove a Yeti at the start of the year too and didn't notice anything like this then either.

Is it normal for the noise of the aircon unit to be significantly louder than the fan-only option and for the pitch and volume of the 'growl' to increase noticeably with engine revs? When I hit the off button on the unit, there is immediate blissful silence. Turn it back on again and it's like a Jack Russell is growling at you because you won't let go of his ball. Surely that's not normal. I've attached a link to a Youtube clip - play with the sound up:

Mine does not make that noise - looks like a trip to the dealers.

It's only airflow noise on mine, nothing like that growl :wonder:

Take it back and growl at them!

Obviously there is bound to be some noise but mine works very sweetly and effectively

If there is a Jack Russell in there, I am not surprised that he is growling. Certainly not a standard feature.

Never noticed any growl-like sound on either of my Yetis. I too would recommend a trip back to the dealer.

Check for a puppy trapped under the bonnet ... that's just weird (and wrong)!

That's not well!

Mine made noises much less obvious than that and the aircon was replaced immediately

Thanks everyone, that's really useful feedback - back to the dealer then. I'm irked because I bet if I'd had the new 1.8 4x4 SE Plus I'd ordered in February (before Skoda in their wisdom peremptorily cancelled the order 12 weeks after accepting it), it wouldn't have had this issue. Because I could no longer get a new 1.8 petrol engine, I had to buy used and ended up with a pup like this.

Let's see how well the Approved Used scheme works then...

A Yeti pup might just need a little TLC, like everyone else

Could be ac compressor. Hope it's under warranty

Booked in for next week - thanks again for your comments. I understand there's 18 months remaining on the warranty and there's always the 30 day exchange...

Let's hope it's not orphaned so soon :'(

The dealer replaced the compressor and regassed the system all under warranty.  It's a happy puppy now - no more growling. Thanks for confirming the problem everyone.

Now just to sort out the creaky doors - that is when it comes back from the body shop - a coach reversed into it on day 6.

For the next few days I have the delights of a RAV4 to tide me over....

Murphy's law in action?
