Stonechips

Featured Replies

My bonnet is riddled with stone chips do you guys touch them up or just ignore them?

Try Chipex: http://www.chipex.co.uk/.

It's much better than the traditional touch up sticks.

Cheers,

Is it as easy to use as the video suggests and what's the results like?

I haven't the need to use it yet as my car is new, but my work colleague swears by it for his Passat. If you get close enough you can still see the small indentations of course, but from 6' away they can't be seen. I'll be getting some as and when my bonnet gets shot blasted!

Anyone used this stuff on the race blue of the VRS?

I have the original skoda touch up paints (corrida red) but have not used them incase i make a hash of it ? Mine is riddled with chips now.Anyone used these ? Any advise to get a good finish ?

Important that before you touch up using quality touch up, by brush, pin, needle, darning needle, tooth pick, cocktail stick or what ever,

(possibly best to get it mixed at a Local Motor Factors is cheaper and better quality and can be matched/mixed perfectly again if needed for spraying or touch up/repairs.)

*** First,

Get some Rust Inhibitor or remover on to or into the chip, and let it do its work.***

When you already have the paint, go to an easy to work on Stone Chip, but not the most obvious on the bonnet & practice.

Easy enough to remove the over paint if you have any.

When the touch up is properly dry,

Do not rub all around the stone chip while missing the high paint you want to remove.

Mix/shake the paint really well, and when you know it is shaken enough, then do it some more.

Drop little amounts into a chip.

Leave it a day if you want, then do some more.

Good advise, never thought about rust . Cheers

On my Red A3 I sorted the stone chips as you could see the white base coat and I hated it. There must have been about 20 or more and took me bloody ages!

I used cocktail sticks to fill the hole (after cleaning it all of course :)) built up the paint up slowly so that there was a little bit of a mound and wet sanded it back flush with the bonnet once dryr then machine polished out all the fine wet sanding marks/scratches.

I can't remember where I got the paint made up, but the red paint and clear coat came in seperate bottles, so I mixed a little of the lacquer in with the red as I personally felt it would be a little easier and quicker as I then didn't have to apply the clear coat at a later stage.
