Navman 510 v Tom Tom Go 300

Featured Replies

Right, I have decided tonight I will order one of these 2 sat navs. Can't decide which one though. 2 important things for me are postcode search-which they both have, and ability to download speed camera databases. I don't understand how you do that with Tom Tom Go-can anyone tell me how you get updates etc onto the Tom Tom Go?

Had a lousy time visiting various stores today, trying to get staff to advice/demonstrate. Hardly anyone could help or even show me how they work!

I'm leaning towards the Navman 510 but my son thinks Tom Tom Go 300 ould be better.

Any opinions/advice welcome

Cheers

Derek

The site with the speed camera database (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/) also has quite a lot of reviews, as well as members' comments in the forums...

|Debating similar, would go for the TTG 500 though with Bluetooth as you can use it as a Hnad Free Car Phone but more importantly get Traffic updates down via GPRS.

I have the original TTG with Ver 5.0 S/W the new maps basically with the Full Post Code search facility and it is excellent. Only issue I have is that it you wear polarisied sunglasses it blanks the screen when you look at it through them. Other than that superb unit hence debating the upgrade to the TTG 500.

The Speed Camera Database isn't as good as my Road Angel II, but having said that you can get a TTG for less than the RA2 and obviously Sat Nav as well so the TTG wins hands down.

I've got the Navman iCN510.......

Was almost sold on the TTG..but........pocketability won out in the end....the TTG is a bit of an awkward shape to stuff in a trouser pocket (though you might get admiring glances........... :P )

If you want sound quality, the the TTG - massive speaker in that unit, which gives it the edge in terms of sound level/clarity.

The Navman however doesn't rely entirely on a touchscreen approach - has some nav buttons.......useful for switching between readouts etc.....

Can alsl use the camera d/base as previously mentioned.

I've got no complaints, but maybe see about saving yourself a bit of cash - i plug in the iCN510, Windows picks it up as a Mitac Digiwalker.........now, if that will run all the navman stuff.........might be cheaper.......lol

thanks for all your input. phoned up global positioningsystems.com and asked his advice. he said it has to be tom tom go because the quality of maps is better than on the navman. also it comes with camera detector software preloaded.

If you only want in car navigation and they were your only choice then I'd have the TomTom purely on sound quality. The 510 can struggle a bit against car and stereo noise as it's only really a PDA.

The TomTom and Navman use the same tele-atlas maps but different software and I actually prefer then Navman maps and routing to the TomTom.

Thats why I didn't buy either and bought a pure incar unit from the Navman ICN600 range.

It will take a bit of trial and error to get the routing options how you want them. In a while you will wonder how you managed without one :) .
