Creaky Sun Roof On L & K Yeti!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My new L & K Yeti has developed a creaking sound coming from the sunroof when in the closed position. I've had the car since April and it's only started to make this noise for the last couple of weeks. I'm not talking an odd creak now and again, it's almost constant when above 30 mph on A/B roads. I've tried opening then closing the sunroof and the noise disappears but then returns shortly afterwards! I've booked it in at 'Lookers' in Stockport this Friday so hopefully it should be all sorted then, just wondered if anyone has experienced any 'creaking' too from their sunroof's?

Many thanks,

Mike

Mine is 2 months old and still seems to be OK but I'd be interested in what they find?

I pick mine up today!

Mines three and a half years young and the only times I get an occasional creak from the roof is when its abroad and even then its only when the ambient temperature is above 35 degrees. :sun: Back in blighty its obviously not an issue!

My yeti is sometimes like a sailing yacht - it creaks as if it is rolling in a storm. I put it down to some "scuttle shake" due to the loss of rigidity with having the roof. But I haven't been in other Yetis to compare. In one of the other threads, someone said that is what their garage mechanic said the creak is due to too.

Have a positive image of sailing the open seas and enjoy the creak - unless you are prone to sea-sickness. :-)

Mine creaks sometimes... but you then use the tilt setting and wham it goes silent. I got some Gummi Fledge the other day but have not had time to put this on and see if it works. (The roof box is currently in the way).

Does yours tend to do it in a certain type of weather/climate? Any noise I have in the real heat totally goes when its opened or tilted too.

Make sure the dealer lubricates it at each service. Two of the three times Ive had a dealer service they've missed it and its apparently on the service schedule if the sunroof is fitted. I took it back and complained and the they did it straight away without issue. :)

Be interesting to know where to apply lubricant to the sunroof as a diy job.

Ask Bob, he'll know :giggle:

I rather thought that might get a comment. :giggle:

I don't understand all this innuendo that is directed at BobDog. He's really a shy retiring gentleman. :giggle:

Fred

I dont understand the need for regular innuendo on a car forum at all but there you go...

The lube is applied to the runners either side. Im unsure of exactly what the dealers use but id imagine the can of 'automotive' white grease I have in the shed would be fine.

Likewise and my patience is running thin... if it persist I'm going to start reporting the posts I'm sorry. There's a time and place for everything and this innuendo is really starting to irk me.

Feel free to stick me on your ignore list if my comment above irks you so much :dull:

Marie: it is not just the comment above. It is the fact that every time the innuendo starts the ENTIRE thread stops dead in its tracks (it is not just you, so apologies for replying to one of your posts today about this). I enjoy your other contributions so don't want to put you or Bob (or anyone else) on an ignore list. But derailing threads like this is not what Briskoda is about. We are here to talk about Škodas (as sad as that is to some). The innuendo is alienating a lot of people and worse still, makes them not want to come back (to Briskoda) at all. And what will you be left with then? An empty forum with nothing to talk about but silly innuendos... So please: there is a time and place for everything and Briskoda is not the place for innuendo.

I tend to agree.... But, rather than "reporting" things and making it all rather 'heavy' it might be a better way forward to see if it's possible to arrive at a consensus whereby it gets restricted to BobDog's own personalised thread (set aside for exactly this?).

My feeling is that, while sometimes it IS amusing, it tends to clog up what would otherwise be useful, erudite, sensible car-related threads. There's no doubt that a good few participants thoroughly enjoy a good bit of daft banter, but - on the converse, it is probably also true that a good many have been scunnered (great Scottish word meaning p***ed off) by it.

So - a proposal, for the greater good! Accept that it WAS fun, and has maybe run its course in the mainstream, and let it continue on its own thread for the foreseeable future. What say the rest of the Yeti Community?

100% happy with that...

Well while we're on the subject of telling folk what they should and shouldn't post, why dont we agree to stop calling 'rival' cars silly little names like puke?

Its extremely childish

the ignore feature works wonders. I deployed it a few weeks back and no more innuendo.

Back on topic never heard any creaking from my sunroof. It leaked and trashed the carpets with the resultant mould but otherwise flawless

I think the volume of innuendo has already decreased considerably since the 'innuendo police' arrived a few months back.

Don't you think that the comments on this thread are a gross overreaction?

Mountains and molehills spring to mind here.

Well when another member made derogatory remarks about the yeti it was de rigeur to advocate the use of the ignore function. That wasn't regarded as over reaction. If innuendo does your head in then the same remedy applies. Neither is an over reaction. Just sensible use of the functions on briskoda. If anyone were to start constantly posting on the subject (as was the case with one note) then it would be an over reaction.

I updated my ignore list weeks ago to cut the innuendo. This is the first and only time I've mentioned it. :)

It's getting a bit tedious and predictable too.

It seems Bob is determined (an others) to do it.

It irritates me but I put up with it as in general it is a marvelous forum.

And please no..... if you don't like it 'go away'....why should I?

Back on topic, my 6 month old has had no noise from the sunroof as yet, but I think the best place for the attempting a cure would be Gummi Fledge on the rubbers seals which is usually where this sort of sound comes from. Personally I do not like adding lubricants, grease etc. to the runners as it tends to attract dust sticking to it which in its self causes problems. Let us know what the dealer says and does for our future use, should the problem occur with our vehicles
