5th gear problem's :(

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I put a thread up a while back reference not being able to select 5th gear when down changing from 6th it goes up the box fine and down changes into every other gear fine just not 5th from 6th.

So I used the tread on here on how to adjust the shift linkages have done that twice now and its not got any better.

If I come from 6th and double clutch (without reving) it goes into 5th fine.

So my question is if its not linkages what could it be :) amy help will be much appreciated

Cheers guys chris

I think it may be the selector fork but was hoping someone on here would be able to shine some lights on the situation lol

Yea would be great, I just thought my gearbox is dying

I hope its not the gearbox :/ mine is running a fast road clutch and smf so I hope that hasn't caused any problems :(

it sounds like the syncro on 5th has worn, you could try a gear oil change first tho

Hmm yea was thinking an oil change :) is the syncro a big job? Is it just one in one out?

My gearbox started doing the same not going into 5th from 6th gear. What was the cure for it?  Was there a easy fix or was it a rebuild / new gearbox needed.

If it will go in with a throttle blip between double declutching then you need a rebuild with new synchro rings.

No easy fix exists.

Thanx for the reply.  Looks like im going to be spending ££.

It's worth checking that the gearbox oil is fully topped up but no snake oil is gonna magically replace the missing material on a worn synchro ring.

Same as my old one Fabia. Will it go onto 5th if when changing down you nudge 4th ever so slightly?
