New engine for MkII Felicia.

Featured Replies

Hey. I've got a Felicia, I'll be changing it for a Superb in October. However I think I might actually keep the Felicia and turn it into a "fun" car.

Don't care about looks too much.. Maybe a respray in candy white and some rally decals?

Just something to fly around in at weekend.

What would be a good engine?

Been thinking of a 8v Golf GTi lump, as 20v Turbos are very pricey.

But I really want a turbo lump in there. What sort of engine can I actually fit in there, because there is an awful lot of room...

I could probs get a 1.4 16v engine very cheaply (100bhp) but I don't think I could find a manifold for a turbo for it.

Anyway, some advice on which engines would suit the car would be great.

G60 lump??

Never thought of that. But they are really pricey and hard to find. Couldn't I just get a 16v and put a supercharger on it myself?

I like your thinking though!

2.5 V6 Vauxhall engine's are bloody cheap for the power, so are 2.5 V6 MG Rover engine (190bhp)... Wonder how hard to control a Felicia would be with that sort of power!

:D:D

probably, at the vw festival today there was a 2litre (i think) with a cooper s charger slapped on. the charger can be gotton cheap on ebay ;)

Hmm.... This is very interesting..

I wonder that my insurance company will say?? If it they will be kill me for putting a big engine in a Skoda, or because it's a Skoda not completely rape my bank account for it?

Fittting a big block lump, i.e 2.0 or 1.8t is no walk in the park as im sure JBS will vouch for. There may be what seems alot of room in the bay but the gearbox and shafts arent VAG based so means mountings etc are all in the wrong place.

A 1.4 16v should drop in easy enough and if you have a 1.6 you can use the adapter plate to mount the original box.

Wonder how hard it was to fit the 2.8 V6 in to Felicia.....

Has anyone actually done this before so maybe they know what I have to do to make a different box fit?

The 2.8 VR6 engine does go in (Skoda had one years ago) but again it takes a bit of work, welding skills are required.

Try a Saab 2.3T lump for an easy 200+ bhp as standard (nearly 300 bhp easily available with just a remap and big exhaust)

Find one from a Saab 9000 for about 5-600 quid with a free car thrown in.

Haven't a clue if one will fit but someone stuck one in the back of a 911 once. God know's why...

Getting a 1.8T will be cheaper overall then re-engineering say a GTI 8V or 16V unit!

A)The turbo kits are rare and when they do come up for sale we are talking big bucks! Plus all the work you'll have to do to the motor to handle the boost!

B) The VAG 1.8T unit is used in so many vehicles that you can find pick them up for between

Dont know what engine you have at the moment? but available from czech are the adapter kits to fit the 1.8t inplace of the 1.3. Although the heavier engines mean the car doesnt handle so well. Also there is a lot of fun to be had with a tuned 1300, the little 1300 has been good enough to very against cars with over double its hp.

If you have the 1600, I havent got a clue Ive never modifed one of those. Remember the 1300 favorit breathing through carbs won against 300hp turbo charged cars in the '94 F2 championship. The 1300 is a very tuneable tough little engine.

bit extreme but there is a chec republic company that will rebuild a 1.3 mpi/spi engine uprate the cams and bore it out to 1598cc that produces around 140bhp!(if anyone knows the website as i have lost it please tell me!) for about a grand, umm just think bout that in a stripped car and imagin the faces of bmw drivers as ur car can keep up! he he

Hi

Blimey your not wrong.

As said there does look to be an awful lot of room , but blimey this one has proved to be a bit more difficult than the others.

Will be fantastic when it is done.

Yup as Lummox said a 1.4 16v should be better fit.

Whats that 100bhp?

Then the brakes are a bit more difficult as these are Skoda parts only and no easy upgrade for them.

Can give you a bit of a headache

Standard skoda felicia brakes fitted with mintex m1144 pads and good quality standard disks, with good quality well adjusted linings at the rear (dont trust the auto adjusters they dont do the job properly) will give you all the braking ability you should need. It was more than sufficient for our use in rallying.

The original 1.3mpi with a new exhaust, airfilter, uprated injectors and ecu map is good for 90hp and thats without cams or head work or capacity increase.

The fabia 1.4 8v engine is also an easy transplant to a already MPI equipped car.

Go the turbo route, you could always make even more room by mounting the rad in the rear and then have roof air intakes!

Rad in the rear?

Blimey hope that was a bit of fun.

But where would the FMIC go?

We put them on the conversions too.

Although not in a felicia yet! In the Japanese D1 (Drifting) circuit some cars are running rear rads sealed in a box with air flowing through from roof intakes and then out the rear usually from where the number plate sits, running water from the engine under the car and then returning it through roll cages to the engine, this enables then to add a larger Intercooler from the space gained from the now rear mounted rad, adds more power and apparently also aids weight balance (if such a thing exists!!!!!) however when i win the lottery i might just try it with a felicia mounting the rad diagonally in a sealed box above the spare wheel recess and loose the hot air through a scientifically cut hole in the bottom of the recess! with a mk 3 golf gti engine sitting pretty up front! :D might work might not! might as well try!! hehe

Hi guys, Im a newy here. Ive just sold my Scooby. Boooo ! And so now need to replace the power. Im looking to buy a 98 Felicia Pick Up. Ive been trying to do my homework and find out if I can fit a VW Polo Mk 3 G40 engine in without too ("too?") much hasell ? The pick up im looking at is already a 1300 and so am hoping the engines will be fairly similar and that the G40 engine mounts are the same ?

Is this possible ? Im hoping that the engine and gearbox mounts are the same as I think that will be one of the most hardest parts along with the wiring.

Any help will be a great help as really fancy making a mini flying machine. I dont wanna do a 1800 Turbo conversion as its gonna be really tough and too expensive !

Also any advice on lowereing the rear will also be a help.

Cheers guys !

The 1300cc Felicia engine is a OHV engine (Skodas own and not VAG) so the mountings are different as its the gearbox (also Skodas own).

IIRC the G40 engine wont fit in a 1.6 Felicia either as on the MK4 you cant drop a G40 engine in and that also uses the 1.6 AEE engine same as the Felicia.

But im looking at maybe fitting up a 1.4 16v if I can find a suitable donor car. It should fit with a few mods to the gearbox end of things. Trouble is even the 1.6 in the Felicia uses the Skoda box (same as the 1.3) with an adaptor plate.

Ahhhh, dont tell me that !

So will a 1600 MK4 Gti Engine fit ? As much as I dont want to bite off more than I can chew, its also gotta be worth doing the conversion. With a 1400 engine im not sure if the power gains would be enough to justify the conversion. I may aswell just tune the existing 1300 !?

Would the G40 engine physicaly fit or not ? As would it then be possible to fabricate some engine mounts ? Im not sure of how it works as never carried out a conversion before but would it be possible to call upon a mobile welder and work from there or is it a bit more hassle than that ?

I just thought the supercharger engine is a bit different to the Gti !

Cheers for the advice though mate.

Are you gonna be able to make it down to E38 ? I can only make it down on the Sunday .

Thanks

Simon.

1600 GTI Motor from a Mk4????......ahhh polo/lupo motor :) D'oh! was thinking MK4 Goof!

I think you can get any motor to fit any car (At York last weekend there was a Audi TT engined Renault Clio attacking the strip running 13.5 Quarters!!!) You just need to have the patience to do it!!!

Beefy's right...a tuning company managed to fit a V8 into a Ford Focus a long time ago!
