Before we start... this is not for me!

As you all know the 20% VAT off ends tomorrow.

So you could say it's the ideal time to order a Fabia as it will arrive and be registered on a 63 plate and I can get a good price on them.

Now I have someone at work that just wants a Fabia that's a bit different from the norm.

They don't want a 13 plate.

But they have no idea which one to go for.

We are down to a Scout in the grey metallic or the Monte hatch (or estate) in black magic, ordered from the factory with a few options.

It will be a 1.2tsi, as it'll do a lot of town work.

But how on earth do you decide what to order with two days to go!

With your eyes shut and a large pin?

I think i have seen more Scout Estates this week than ever before.

I really liked the look of a Dark Grey Metallic & a Mid Silver one,

but was really surprised how i liked a Yellow one i saw parked at a Skoda Dealership in Dundee.

I've only ever seen one Fabia scout, where as Montes are seemingly all over the place.

A yellow Scout would be pretty unusual

You can't order a yellow Scout currently.

It's the only stock colour you can't order the Scout in according to the brochure.

Plus it would look rather odd... IMO (although I haven't seen it)

I've only seen three Scouts, oddly two were on the same day but 50 miles apart.

I have a soft spot for the scout so Id go with that and suggest it would look quite classy in grey. Personally, I dont see the point of black Monte's as you get zero contrast from the Monte's black wheel arches.

Agreed - was so tempted by a black monte, but seemed kind of pointless, so went for a contrasting colour instead.

Would have gone for a Scout if the seats were as supportive as the Monte's - it's definitely a more grown-up looking car.

Sports seat in the Monte, and the preceeding Fabia Sport are great seats for side support, they really hold you in place, and what I'd have loved to have had in my Elegance :(

I love sport seats but my wife, who is not only long in the tooth, like me, but also wide in the hips these days is unable to sit comfortably in them. I wonder how other members who are blessed with more ample proportions find the sports seat? Are they only made for slim or small people?.

I am 6 foot and 75kg, ie pretty thin, and it took me quite a while to wear in the sports seats. For the first few months I'd often find myself wriggling slightly to get the "perfect" position. Not so bad now, but I'd hate to be much larger.

I am 5ft 11 & a 1/2" & 120kg and the seats of any kind just give up and shout submit.

Sports Seats hold up surprisingly well IME.

Comfy in a vRS over longer distances for the wider girth and why i like them.

(but i do like firm seats.)

After a group discussion the Scout has been chosen and a fair price agreed with Preston Motors.

So one Steel Grey 1.2tsi Fabia Scout with plenty of extra kit on the way...
