headlamps for monte carlo

andysoutham,

Daylight running lights are designed to be brighter than side lights.

vRS DRLS, become the Sidelights, only less bright.

(even still too bright sadly.)

Most people do drive with dipped headights and not only sidelights thankfully.

george

So the DRLs on the vRS are used as DRLs, sidelights and fog lights? I thought the vRS had dedicated sidelights and used the DRLs as fog lights as a second use. Happy to be wrong :-)

The mk2 Fabia vRS has no Fog Lights. None as standard or as an option.

Thanks George :-)

Another example of the dealer not knowing their 'product'

When I was test driving the vRS I was told they where also fogs. ... didn't check though, mind you the same dealer told me the monte had no DRLs as he didn't know where the switch was!

3 years Skoda have had to correct the Brochures, websites etc.

& 3 years sales people have been arguing that the vRS has Fog Lights.

it is ridiculous that Skoda built a car with some performance in 2010 without front fog lights

& put DRLs in the position they normally would be.

Then use those as the Sidelights & Parking lights.

(many drivers think you are blinding them with Spots or Fogs and headlights when it is just the standard lights.)

Maybe have a look at the Pinned Thread in this section on the vRS DRL's.

Totally agree.

It wasn't just 'regular' drivers that were confused about them, I read many articles on how the Police were using tickets and drivers had to go to SUK for clarity (excuse the pun)

Unfortunately my girlfriend could not get insurance on the vRS so I went for fog lights. ....I mean the monte! :D

I mounted the near side behind the air filter and the off side on the floor below the headlight.

Cheers mate, how did you secure the ballasts?

The ballast behind the air box was secured with the nut and bolt supplied through an existing hole and then a cable tie to be absolutely sure.

The other ballast I found a predrilled hole in the chassis and used a bolt I had in my bits and bobs man jar!

Next job is an induction kit to get the roar. ...waiting for an email about choice.

Did you take the headlights out for easier access or find it pretty straightforward leaving them in.

I left the headlights in. When changing the bulbs it is no more difficult than changing a standard bulb. There is enough room to do everything you need to.

Hi Jim

I bought these http://www.car-mod-shop.co.uk/35wcanh7r-6k-h7r-xenon-hid-conversion-kit-canbus-6000k.html with the 6000K bulbs. No error messages on the dash. I have used this retailer many times and can highly recommend. The products are normally sent recorded delivery and arrive within 2 days of ordering. Delivery is free, even in the UK Highlands (mainland) although the system charges you for some reason and you have to email a request for a refund which is immediately applied. This is the 3rd kit I have bought from them (3 different cars) and all have lasted well. The first kit I installed was a bit tricky as I was nervous, I phoned for advice while fitting and James talked me through it! The guide on here is second to none though and I wish I had seen that 4 years ago!

I only have one negative thing to say and it's not so much about the conversion kit its more about the 'shutter' system on the headlamp unit itself. As the car uses the same H7 for both dip and main when you do not have the headlights on and attempt to flash the bulbs take about 5 seconds to 'warm' up so the flash goes un noticed. When the dip beam is on there is no problem. It doesn't bother me really but it may annoy some. The light output benefits far outweigh the inability to flash during the day. Up here in the Highlands there are so many deer on the road at night, I work shifts, I mainly finish work at 12mn and on days with an earlier finish I start at 6am so in the winter when the roads are unlit the conversion is a must!

As I have said earlier I would recommend taking the car to an Mot station and have the lights levelled after fitment.

long post...sorry   :whew:

Have you got a picture of these on at night?

Reading all these posts about how terrible the monte's lights are, im glad iv got the SE.

I do alot of driving at night on country roads and cant be doing with bad lights. Id defo be getting HIDs in them. Prob 55w ones too.
