Well I snapped a spring so thought I may aswel :)

They are bloody firm so don't expect to be more comfortable than before even with new shocks. I found mine is less bouncy due to the shocks but you can get some jolts if you dont pay attention to the crap roads.

Provided you trim down the bump stops according to the equivalent drop however the handle is firm but fine and its really sharpened up for me.

I've got new ARB bushes to fit but actually found I haven't really need to push to change them for some reason since its dropped ??? Drives like a go cart now

cant wait to get my car back so i can fit these now :D

I've fitted new shocks with mine but didnt trim the bump stops down lol.

How much were the new shocks?

How much were the new shocks?

These were made by Nordic. Gas shocks too so should handle the bumps alot better. I paid around £33 each. I also bought new top mounts and bump stops at the same time so I could just do a swap rather than having to dismantle the old ones lol. Eurocarparts sell all the kit quite cheap, especially if you use a voucher code.

Do you not (you will) find with the limited clearance you will find it oscillates a LOT more than you might expect. To the point it feels you have actually downgraded the suspension

You can trim the stop carefully with them still in place just be careful not to go into the strut itself (you don't want the shock seal to become damaged and start leaking)

I sawed/cut mine down carefully, took a while but its worth it.

Haven't driven the car yet so can't comment. Once I've taken it for a good drive ill see if it touches the bump stops. Once the car is back on the floor ill check clearance. Also have to bear in mind the new bumps were shorter anyway, and in all fairness. I'd rather be hitting the bump stop than bottoming the strut out itself

Man its the first thing you will want to do - trust me. You won't notice it at first but go onto any kind of decent speed motorway or A road with any bumps and you will be playing buckaroo down the road  Only car I've been in that has ever felt that bad was the wifes old Fiat Punto on worn / inadequate suspension....but fixed with the adjustment to stops

Its obvious if you think about it. Jack up the suspension and will see how it starts with barely any room for any play - but once jacked there is lots to play with, such that you can at least get the stop down and cut it in half

Bottoming out the strut after dropping 30mm on the car  Yeah it will be bottoming out matey, but on the bump stops before anything....trust me :giggle:

You say the bump stops are shorter though? Did you buy ones that are pattern and its just a coincidence they are a tiny bit shorter or deliberately intended for a car that is lowered that much?

arent ibiza bump stops lower? and they fit straight on ?

Once the weather has cleared i'll jack it up off the bottom arm so i can get a realistic view of how much travel i've got left. Cant be as bad as my old Starlet though lol. A small manhole made it hop/skip. And the bump stop kit was a pattern kit for a fabia tdi.

So when you say trim the bump stops, in trimming 2cm ish from the top?

I personally trimmed them so if you look at the original bump stop, it has 2 narrow areas (conveniently),

on on the original high part of the bump stop, and one below that with a similar diameter. I basically trimmed to the point it had a similar diameter, so yeah about 2cm probably. Whether its the top or the bottom of the bump stop is down to you.

Now, that is still 1cm or so LESS than that the suspension has been dropped by, but I still think its enough to avoid the issue I felt which is whereby it seemed to actually feel like it was rebounding upwards because of lack of travel - rather than taking up the travel play in the normal oscillation of a downward stroke !

If you don't then its like you have reduced suspension travel by 3cm but yet you have kept the stops as they are??? madness if you don't IMO

Should I have bump stops on the bottoms of my springs on the rears?

  • Author

Well the little aluminium rings that sit under the rear springs were dust so renewed those, fitted springs and they are amazing :) more comfortable than the old ones in my opinion :)

First time I've driven mine today too. Made such a difference with the new shocks too. No travel issues either lol

Did you trim the rear bump stops?

Didn't need to. As mentioned above the new ones were shorter than the originals anyway.
