Can you change the digital speed readout?

Featured Replies

Picked up my new White Monte Carlo Tech TDI today.

I do like the car, seems quite nippy. Already done 50miles in only 3 hours of ownership.

Trying to get to grips with the controls and can't seem to be able to find a way to change the electronic speedo reading from km/h to mph. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Katrina

You need to turn it in to an Aussie car, Sheila! Strewth!

does it have Maxi-Dot, if so then it can be done without VCDS I think.

Have a vague memory the setting of the country it is in, is not a maxidot option? Might be wrong.

Pretty sure there was a whole thread on this in the Octy section, Jason, last year sometime. Can't for the life of me think who it was now though.

I stand corrected :D VCDS it is!

Confused now by post #5

Just done this recently and its a little code change in VCDS (to Aus) then two changes in Maxidot.

Very simple.

Well, I'd happily do this if you were in Devon, but as your location is "england" that's a little too vague :D

it's less vague than UK :p

I would guess it can't be changed as there are no km/h markings on the analogue speedo

i'd love to change mine but I can't find anyone local with VCDS :(

Yes you can change but VCDS is required...

Maxidot in the Fabia is a Lite version of that in the Octy/Other Models

If you are near Hereford/Worcester drop me a PM.

Indeed. Believe the controller on the Fabia is a midline one so is unable to be set up to control many of the cars settings via the Maxidot settings menu. On an Octavia etc you can change many of the convenience settings, down to setting the alarm bleep, turning the DRLs on and off and telling the rear wiper to wipe when the fronts are on permanently.

There is a list of VCDS owners in my signature, pick someone local and send them a PM.

I've done the mod on mine. Yes, you need to get a nice member to change it to AUS and it will come up as a option. I can show you pictures of my maxidot display if your not sure how it all works. :)

How do you get the rear wiper to work with the fronts and the Alarm beep please?

Thanks

It is possible. And you use the Fabia Maxidot after changing the country code with VCDS.

I did a 62 plate Fabia a couple of weeks back, hence my previous post.

Yes I suppose it is a bit vague....I'm in Cheshire so too far but thanks though.

So would doing this invalidate any warrantee? Or can my dealer sort this out?

Thanks, but not that close :-(

Dealer might refuse on the basis its a UK car, but find someone on the VCDS owners map nearby and they can probably help!

What's the deal with not being able to change it in UK setting anyway? Is there some pathetic rule in the UK/EU about having to show km/h?

You've got it in one!!!

Once set in VCDS it is still possible to set the digital display back to KM/h when you want to using Maxidot.

So when you go in for servicing it will not be obvious.

Your car will still show as being Australian on a scan though.

You've got it in one!!!

In that case, what a particularly petty rule that is!
