Can you change the digital speed readout?

Featured Replies

In that case, what a particularly petty rule that is!

Illustrates why we need to be out of the EU,IMO,but leaving that aside,it's also Skoda's fault for not putting KPH on the face of the speedo itself, then the maxidot display could have been switchable without restriction.

Forgive me or am I missing something.

Do all Fabias' not come with a 3"-4" diameter speedometer with a sweeping needle that tells you your speed in MPH.

I appreciate changing some of the functions with a VCDS tool is a good thing but why do you need to see the MPH again as a digital number anyway.

It has to show KPH in case you travel in a country that measures in kilometres.

It's easier to see a Large Digital number than looking at the speedo and you can revert back to the kpm settings in seconds

The digital display is quicker to have a quick glance at when travelling through roadworks etc.

As for having to show KPH, this has been covered MANY times before, the car does not have to show KPH, what it does have to do though is be capable of showing KPH, which it still does by pressing a few buttons.

Katrina, had mine changed a couple of years ago by P.S.I. Tuning of Newcastle Staffs, think they charged about £25 all in , it has had a couple of services by the main dealers and they have never commentated about it being changed to Australia settings, it is well worth having done as your speed can be seen much easier than on the dial.

What did we do in the days before Maxidot displays and all we had was a round analogue speedometer, that's all I'm saying.

If it's easier to read a large digital number then why don't all cars have them instead of just a couple of models from the likes of Renault, Citreon and Toyota.

I was happy when I found out my car came with Maxidot but it never crossed my mind why it didn't show the MPH on it.

I just wish we could change more of the functions on it like my wife's Fiat 500 can and my previous Peugeot 207 could in car instead of having to have a VCDS plugged in.

But why would you want to change more things, you coped before maxidot :giggle:

ATEOTD some people want to be able to do it because the car is capable of doing it, personal choice… we are all different.

You're right, we do all have different opinions and everyone is entitled to have them, it's a free world we live in.

All I'm saying is I'd rather be able to change settings like the door locking and things like that than be able to have another MPH readout which the speedometer already does.

Wow, didn't realise people can be so defensive over a readout.

How do you get the rear wiper to work with the fronts and the Alarm beep please?

Thanks

Convenience menu, ATA confirm. Switch that on youll get alarm bleep.

Lights and vision, Rear Wiper. Turn that on and the rear wiper is supposed to sweep once for every six wipes (or something like) when you have the wipers on permanent slow or fast wipe.

Cheers will have a look tomorrow

Massive thanks too James I today, found him on the VCDS map and pm'd him yesterday and he said I could come over and change the settings on the maxi-dot with his VCDS cheers mate! Much better with a digital readout :D

Nothing about the Wiper in any of the settings.  Although I had my rear wiper set to do the Tear drop wipe. I've often wondered that not all options are activated in the Maxi Dot settings and the dealers don't know what you can / cannot have. They should ask you/tell you what there is and what can be done then you have the option to turn it on or off. The Alarm setting is present and I have activated it. Your paying £20K+ for a car that is capable of doing things but the dealers don't know what can be set up

You are welcome Dan, look after that shiny Fabia!  You know where I am if there is anything else I can help you with.

My last two cars have had both analogue and digital readouts as does my husbands and none of them were makes that you mention.  Therefore I think it's pretty common to have digital readouts alongside the analogue readouts in cars.

I wouldn't mind if it only had an analogue display it just seems pretty pointless it showing me the speed in km/hr when I will never need to know it.  If it could be converted to MPH then at least it would be a useful readout.

This gets to the real point.

As part of the new car buying process the dealer should inform the customer of what all the alternative settings are so he or she can choose what they want and the dealer should then activate them FOC. These shouldn't be shrouded in mystery so,from the dealers point of view, they can be a future  earner.

...And, regardless of what others think or want,I would like a mph digital and I should be able to get it at the touch of a button,I can on the other car I own.

Agreed. It's the requirement to show the speed in km/h that I don't "get". It's a UK spec car, registered in the UK. Ok so if you take it to Europe you need to be able to display the speed in km/h, but I see no valid  reason why it should always display km/h.

Your car doesn't need to display Km/h, just the ability to do so

So anyone know what you can actually have in Maxi Dot or what your car can do?

Wonder why the Aus country code enables the change in maxi dot and ours doesn't then :-(

It's probably because they use KPH on their speedometers so they will have the Maxidot readout in MPH as the alternative.

The Dealer or anyone with a VCDS can change things like door locking from the key fob or auto door locking, rear wiper use, alarm beeps, that kind of thing.

I might pop into my Dealer and see what they can set or if they're willing to do it!!
