  • Title updated and so is the car!! Decided to grasp an offer on a 6 month old DS4 We both found the inconvenience of 3 doors on the DS3 a problem at times So...on Thursday we get a DS4 DSport 2.0 16

  • Handling over power - something vag need to look at with the next hot hatch.

  • Are you drunk Sharky

17k? hhhhmmmm I DO prefere the looks of the citroen, I DO believe it will handle  properly (which the vRS doesn't) ... but guess I'm stuck at my price ceiling, and there is NOTHING that can provide what the vRS does..... (plus after my relatively cheap suspension mods I think I will be close)

at least the ford is better priced than its rivals, but if you want a HOT hatch, seems you have to pay 19k......... (renault, pergeot ect) which lets face it is nearly 50% more than I just paid.....

and as for the skodas interior, yes it is poor, my old grande punto sporting had a better  (blue and me) media system than the vRS has , even with my phone prep! lol....

to be honest Chris, I would really like you to bring it to a meet so I can judge better........... speed isnt everthing, but value for money irks me if its expensive...... and citroens when I used to buy them were cheap! DS3's seem too expensive 9I did look at them before I bought my current one)

I used to buy citroens for driving school cars (I had 2 VTR's , one that did 150k! engine was as good as new at that mileage) and I did like them, still like them, (nearly bought a seb Loeb special before the mark I vRS!)  BUT the press says the gearbox is a reliability issue on the DS3, and I had to replace the gearboxes EVERY 40k on both VTRs over 230k........... BUT as others have said, citroen may have fixed their woes......

I wont diss it, it undoubtly looks better, handles better, is better equipped, but then so is a grande punto abarth (which would be closer to my choice if I had the extra money, AND has 180 bhp) ........ could be had for 17k......... I just don't think it would be worth the money in comparison.......

meh..... I could be wrong, just my opinions ;) I'm sure she will enjoy it!

We were just chatting about the DS3 this afternoon sayin how good looking they are, how citroen seem to have moved a step in the right direction. You'll have to bring it to a meet wouldn't mind a look round and remember less power doesn't necessarily mean less fun.

Do like the look of the ST though on top gear last night.

A well thought out reply Dave

Certainly better than at the weekend when you were nissed as a pewt!!

The Fabia will be missed ......

TBH..It was her choice and the interior really is a nice place to be...It certainly goes well too!!

Still have the Octavia at least...that's not going unless Samuir1974 has a spare £15K ;)

BTW..Looks similar to this but with Chrome mirrors

I have to say I'd have tried my hardest to persuade SWMBO that a Fiesta ST was the way to go :)

She wouldn't even entertain the idea of having a Ford Bryan....call it badge snobbery if you like...LOL

All stems from the time we hired one in Spain.

It was poor, very poor, but not a new model ST granted

As Chris said my wife had one for three years and it depreciated far less than Chris`s wifes Vrs , brakes excellent and gearbox and everything screwed together well it did not miss a beat . She only changed as she had it 3 years and with her new job been in the 1st place in West Yorkshire to get snow she bought a 4x4 2012-10-05141848.jpg

Don't worry sharkrider. Black VRS's still cut the mustard. Admittedly I saved a lot trading in for a VRS so its worth it to in my opinion as well! :D

the fiesta st isnt all its cracked up to be, while it may handle well we dont all live on a track and its just not as nice a place to be as the 208 gti is, ive yet to try the clio but that gets my thumbs up in the looks department at least

the ds3 is a looker thats for sure, much nicer than most cars out there at the mo so enjoy :)

Not a pug fan and the clio's gearbox is a bit slow compared to the vrs I just had. Was quick though.

The only thing to be wary of at the moment are the press reports of the state of PSA finances

Reports suggest that troubled Peugeot is running out of cash and turning to US-owned GM as a last resort

The founding family of PSA Peugeot Citroen have offered to step aside to allow GM to take over the business in a last-ditch attempt to keep the company afloat, according to reports from news agency Reuters.

It is suggested that PSA could run out of operating capital by the end of the year, having burned 3 billion euros in operating cash last year. GM, which operates Vauxhall, Opel and Chevrolet in Europe, already owns 7% of PSA having invested in March 2012.

Since when have you had to "live on a track" to own a car that handles?

Since when have you had to "live on a track" to own a car that handles?

Agreed. The new Fiesta ST would be my choice for a day to day car - which is exactly what the 'ST' models are aimed at. The RS models are the more driver demanding, track focused cars.

Lol....anyway..she wouldn't drive a Ford..she said

So irrelevant

To be fair, the swing unit is pretty naff compared to most units cars have fitted.

Think my Rapid has one, it's going to have to go...

Can't say I've found anything particularly wrong with the Swing radio in mine ... maybe I just have massively low expectations :D

I did briefly consider getting a S/H Amundsen but figured I could make better use of the £250+ elsewhere :)

coz thats the only thing, imho, it has going for it and if your pushing a car to its limits then thats the best place to do it. its not the best looking, fastest, best equipped or anything else, all the things i look for in a car. now affording those things is another matter but when your spending that much then these things start to matter, something i can overlook in the fabia as its so cheap

Nice one...See you after the 21st July

Hope the Seat handover goes well

I'm fairly happy with my vRS and OK it has it's limitations but for the price it's good and for only a bit more for some bits to improve the handling. Although for some reason today I've caught myself looking at used RenaultSport Megane 265's. Not cheap enough yet but prices I noticed are falling quickly. I liked the previous RS Clio but didn't really think about buying French. I wouldn't normally but they are improving.

I looked at the prices :o hope you got discounts, didn't realise just how expensive they are....... hope it goes ok for you!

the RS meganes are apparently quite reliably martyn.....
