Help with subwoofer and amp please!

Featured Replies

So I'm confused. I got an amplifier off my cousin, it's a Dragster DA602 60Wx2 RMS 2/1 channel full MOSFET power amplifier w/built-in x-over, I was looking at these Subwoofers: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Face-White-10-Inch-1100w-Car-Audio-Subwoofer-Driver-SQ-SPL-Sub-Woofer-/350561952901?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item519f1ee485 but I don't know if they'll run on the amp, nor do I know how to wire them up (I'm hoping to buy 2) does anyone know if I'll be able to use these subs, or does anyone know of any other subs I could use?

The bottom line is that there will not be a problem running these. The amps aren't very powerful and even though the 1000w claim of a £25 sub is most likely a vast over claim they'll still no doubt be able to handle it.

Now, the subs generally need to be mounted into a box - you can have a box each mounted on either side of the boot, a single box with both. The box could be ported or sealed, or even a band pass arrangement (I don't even understand this tbh - someone else will explain I'm sure).

But.

The sound is not going to be great quality. And probably not even for the money - it's more about the space you're taking up!

See, I'd say adding a sub (to tasteful levels) will pretty much always improve the sound stage in a car as you lose so much.

But for this, I don't think there's any point in having both subs. Ideally, I'd say to get something that's just been made by a more reputable name so you get something with a little more clout - then just have one. Bridge the channels on the amp so the power of both channels is put through one speaker, you get the bass added to the overall sound but you get half your boot back and also the speaker won't turn to $hit when you do, inevitably, turn it up!

That amp is designed for running speakers not subs. You CAN run sub/s off it but it wont be great.

Power wise you have 60w x 2 OR 160w X 1. The x1 bit is because you can make the two channels into one by using the positive of one channel and the negative of the other channel on one speaker/sub.

If you are on a budget and must use this amp you really restrict your self due to its low power output.

I'd suggest spending more on the sub and getting something of decent quality like this

Its low power handling to match your amp.
