The Rapid: First Impressions

Featured Replies

Plus I noticed that nowadays Irish Skoda website has a fully working configurator, while SUK limited theirs to base models (where price hike is far lower than on the higher spec and non petrol models). I wonder if it is a coincidence.

As does the UK version if you click on the link from teh homepage, rather than in the Rapid secion. :)

Interestingly, looking at the Elegance Spec in Ireland, it doesn't seem to include front fog lights, MDI and Alarm.

All of which are standard in the UK, but cost nearly £500 to add to an Ireland spec car.

They may be some other bits it does get but I'm supposed to be working...

I already added them in the prices I quoted. I imported 2 out of my 3 Skodas from Ireland, and always compare like for like spec.

No, let's stick to the model I consistently quote in every post I made on the Rapid since its introduction, and that is an Elegance diesel Rapid kitted out for long motorway trips in the UK and abroad all year round.

Very consistently indeed. So is the Rapids fuel tank big enough for you when you are trekking across Europe?!

Yes, 64l vented fuel tank capacity just like Mk1 Octy, as opposed to Mk3's pathetic 50l teacup. 1.6CR Rapid is the longest range car in current Skoda lineup.

I didn't, on the Rapid I quoted (and bought).

Brochure shows the tank capacity at 55 litres.

Where is the extra 9 litres of fuel capacity please.

Rapid's fuel tank is 55 l, not 64 l.

Im confused by two aspects of what you write. Firstly, the published tank capacity is very different to what you suggest it is. Secondly, youve ofter 'rubbished' the 1.6CR engine itself as being inefficient and unreliable. You are considering this one now? Interesting.

I think it's a cracking engine Lee, if you can buy it in Ireland for 50p and a Mars bar.

Hang on, no one mentioned the Mars bar!  :wonder:  I need to recalculate some figures on my import options then....   how much is tax on the Mars bar?! ;)

1.6CR is inefficient in town unless equipped with start-stop and the course that can use it. On motorway, it is a very good engine, though not as good as the 2.0. You can find this statement in most posts I made on the 1.6CR - do a search.

Re fuel tank, since you are clutching at my every post,  I discussed it earlier at length in Mk3 Octy forum, do a search for "ventectomy", your signature suggests at least some rudimentary technical knowledge, surely you can grasp that using the extra tank expansion space on a diesel fuelled car is quite safe and frequently practised

Finally, I could repeat facts all day to you, but frankly I find it pointless to waste time on head members of Briskoda wind-up community, who take pride in derailing factual posts to the sole benefit of the SUK stealership mafia and to the detriment of fellow private Skoda car buyers.

Good day to you, keep overpaying for the UK Rapids and do not forget to smile while you are bending over for your local SUK salesman while he is offering you a 10% discount on a 30% markup.

For every other genuine prospective Rapid buyer, if you are after factory order, it really costs far less to import it from just about anywhere but the UK, even if you value your time.

Are you saying the 64l on the Rapid compared to the 50l on the Octy3 you quoted means the Octy mk3 tank is 50l after you vent it ?

Wow, that must mean it's around 42l...

I would hazard a guess that isnt correct as they publish 50l for the Octy and 55l for the Rapid. Maybe he just knows more than Skoda does?

THat's a relief, I thought they'd been fitting Citigo tanks to the new Octavia by accident. :giggle:

A very good engine.... just with "Also, there were frequent DPF exhaust temp sensor failures over entire range of VAG cars fitted with this engine, including mine after just 8k miles" Sorry, from reading your previous, repeated posts I just assumed you'd not be putting your own money into one again. I'll stop there though as the Skoda Mafia may be watching. I can do without waking up tomorrow with a horses head in my bed....

Frankly, derailing every fact based thread seems to be your only occupation.   Do Google "ventectomy", Rapid's fuel tank is same as Mk1 Octy and Mk4 Golf, it is 55l + 9l expansion space that you can use on a diesel, total 64l useable space.  You cannot easily vent Octy Mk3 50l tank because the vent valve is integrated with the tank.

But I suspect you would rather wind people up instead, that seems a lot more satisfying to your ego that sticking to facts and/or discussing SUK theft from factory order private buyers.

Finally, if you quote my 1.6CR posts, why not quote the lot instead of picking the bits that fit your closed minds?

It's still significantly cheaper to buy from a broker in the UK than it is to buy from Ireland at list price

...and I dont think Ireland have access to the Brokers from what a recent post said. ;) We win! ;)

Ignoring the slight deviation of the previous posts :giggle:

I took the Rapid to the dealership today as the passenger side grab handle broke in several places and came loose from its anchoring after my Dad tried to use it to get out. He's only about 14 stone, mind, but they've ordered a new grab handle. All the others seem secure but in truth I daren't put all my weight on them to test them lest they snap too!

I'm struggling to comprehend that scenario. He opened the door and then put his weight on the handle to assist with standing up...? Bit mad!

Just took him shopping lastnight and when he went to get out, (him being a bit infirm) he opened the door (seated), then tried to use the grab handle to haul himself up and out of the seat when BOOM! Disaster struck! :whew:

Blimey!

So this is my super cool Rapid. Love the color and the engine sound.  My English is too poor to express all my feelings and impressions. The model is Drive level equivalent to Ambition + some optional choices. The price was equivalent 13900 GBP, even less because of the old car recycling program (aprox. 1300 GBP).

Some description: 1.6 TDI 105 HP, Carme alloy wheels 15", sunset glass, esp, climatic AC, normal fog lights, grey platinum, trip computer, remote central locking, rear windscreen wiper, front armrest with storage box, double sided boot floor and others.

^ Looks good, not sure if they offer that colour in the UK but certainly suits it exceptionally well
