rear brake pads

Featured Replies

my rear pads started rubbing this morning so bought a new set. I,ve done the front and no probs but the rear is a bitch. I was flying until I tried to push the caliper in with the resetting tool but it would,nt budge. so rang a mechanic and was told they have to be pushed back in with a computer?? is that bull or is my caliper seized?

I reckon they mean a laptop - you'd never get a computer between the calliper  :giggle:

Changed my rear discs and pads last year and could've sworn I only used a standard wind back tool.

guys the computers name was tony he was 5ft 8 and had a tash lol. the guy just used a bigger version of that tool I tried it with, after 10 mins he had the thing sorted. 40 euro and I had the pads.

Have you tried slackening the bleed nipple?

As the piston goes back, that fluid has to be displaced somewhere, and the easiest place for it to go is out of the bleed nipple.

..... sorry, just noticed that you'd done it.

Make sure your tool is pushing the piston in and winding it in at the same time, otherwise you could cause expensive caliper damage.

in my case with the right tool it took a matter of minutes for both sides.  The biggest problem was wacking the disk of with a club hammer.

They are tight, they need a caliper winder and make sure you undo the brake fluid res cap as well, you may want to wind out a little before you wind in, but they are tight even when not seized, you don't need a PC, VCDS etc that is for B6 Passat's etc with EPB, quality mechanic if they are suggesting this, that or they want to scare you into leaving it with them.
