Whats Your Thoughts On......

Selling my car?

I've just cleared off my Fabia vRS and i am thinking of getting another one, maybe a 55 plate when they come out. But my question is, should i put it back to near standard or leave it as it is,

I have a Star Switchable Remap,17" audi wheels,Seat 160 intake,Seat Strut brace, full vRS colour coded leather interior including door cards, and a 312mm brake conversion.

Would it be worth taking off the mods (obviously not the remap) to put on my next motor, because of the low value added margin, or just start afresh on the next one?

How would a dealer see a trade in in this condition, i have never seen a modified skoda in my local dealers :(

Your thoughts would be appreciated

prob best to take most off and either put them on you next motor or sell them on and go for a different look on the new motor.

agreed you wont get any extra in P/X for having any mods. Private sale you may have to wait until you find someone who wants what you've done to yours.

If your going for another fabia see if you can swap them over, though I'm not sure when you would want to get a newier one as not alot has changed

Take them off and sell them on or use them again.

A dealer won't give you much and personally I don't think a motor thats been modded sells as well as a standard.

I'd use them on your next fabia if its all in good nick... expecially the leather.... you can make a bit of money back selling on new vRS seats (id buy them off you!)

Agree with what the others have said, unless you can find a private buyer who wants to pay an as-is price which takes into account some of the money you've spent. I'd also look at removing the remap as dealers may find it harder to shift if they advertise it as remapped. If they don't mention it, imagine buying an unknowingly remapped car and making an insurance claim which may well be void!

Chris

It begs the question but why do you want to change for another one? Why not just keep the one you've got and do some more fettling if you feel the need.

:iagree: why change?

Change, because its a 53 plate and its about time to have that "Newness" again, especially before the resale value plummets as it has been predicted to do.

I must admit i'd be sad to see her go but the miles are starting to creep up aswell, so sell at a higher price and change often to keep a new car.

Remap removal wouldnt be a problem, its switchable and i can just put it back to the standard map and i can keep the box of tricks to get re-programmed for my next motor.

But why get the same car? Seems utterly pointless to me. You only live once, and you might as well try as broard a range of cars as you can. If my car died on me tomorrow, its replacement wouldnt be another Golf GTI or Fabia vRS, because I want to try and experience as much as I can. Theres no such thing as living happily ever after with cars.

As for depreciation, your going to be hit harder if you buy another new one, as you got to start all over again on the depreciation front. False economy IMO.

Anyway I'd take the mods off, and even if you dont re-use them, you can always sell them. You might actually get LESS if the car is not totally standard, or at very least, less interest. I'd be tempted not even to tell a stealer about the remap TBH.

I totally agree with you, but my car, although i love it to bits is a workhorse, i live on the east of Scotland and work on the West, i travel each day and do a rake of miles, where else can i get a diesel easily up to 170-180 bhp with a steady 50 MPG for 12 grand, with all the wee extras in the fabia it would be IMO false economy to buy a golf TDi 150 or a seat PD 160 or an audi a3 with the higher price tags, this car is practicallity for me and it just so happens alot of fun too.

For the weekends i still have a 1979 golf GTi 16v which gives you a smile like the first time you seen a jazz mag, and SWMBO's 1.4 automatic fester

but my thoughts are, ok i have the car for 1.5 more years then the MOT's begin, so say i have it for 6 years and run it into the ground, take it for a trade in and its worth

I agree with everyone else, take it back to standard, before taking it to the dealer, you get little or nothing with those mods

As for the leather, I

Derek, given what you've just said, I'd still keep it. Its reliable i take it? If you get another car it might not be. After 2 years, you probably have gotten a substantial part of the depreciation out of the way. I'd just run it for another few years, especially if its just a workhorse.

I would keep your existing furbie. I thought it was always more costly to change to a new car than to keep your existing car and accept further depreciation. You always lose the most money when you drive the car out of a showroom, or at least I thought

Or as you own it sell it privately modded, you might find the right buyer who doesnt mind paying a little more as the mods they want to do are allready done.

I did ;) /\/\/\/\/\/\/\

I'd buy a proper "real" vRS, Motorpoint have the "Old Model" new for 12k, nearest one is in that west coast city.

Then you could sell me your seats.

The 17.5% VAT your paying could buy you 215bhp.

215 Bhp, i thought you had slightly more than that now ;)

I see all the comments above and i am inclined to agree with them, maybe its just me wanting a brand new motor again :(, we'll see, on another note i heard my exhaust sounding like it had a little blow at the front last night, if this is the case then thats another

215 Bhp, i thought you had slightly more than that now ;).

Injectors and manifold in today, feels better, off to Dastec tomorrow, thats the crunch time

Sig may well change

Managed to get a calibrated Barograph so all should be well I've had false claims before, 1mb can equal about 5bhp error, off to boots for a digital thermometer now.

Need a proper dyno run and as it cooler now should get 240 - 245. and around 390 torques. :D

LS Diff will be here next Monday.

I'd keep it if its a workhorse.Thought the following was interesting though.
