Location of evaporator

Featured Replies

I remember taking the bracket that holds the passenger airbag off, that allowed me to see the bolts at the top of the airbox.

That bolt near the clutch pedals a bugger to get at, its do able with I bit of cursing

I have separated the evaporator from the air box today, I was due to go back to work, but got an upset tum all nite:sadsmile:.

You have to take the flap body off the front, then there is a large plastic panel at the back this needs to come off otherwise you can't get the heater matrix out, to get that out another panel sort of mid position has to come off first, once that's done you can then separate the 2 halves of the airbox (more small bolts 8mm I think), then it's just a matter of lifting the top off and sliding the evaporator up and out.

There is no expansion valve with the evaporator, that's an easy swap though.

Finally got to the evaporator, the seals looked fine but I replaced them anyway.

The evaporator looks alright, some leaves but not too bad.

Took the bottom half out to look at it but it's a bitch to take out the water radiator as the clamps that hold the pipes don't go back together easy.

Anyway, I am having a hard time putting it back, I don't know how you did it, it doesn't seem to fit in.

Pushed it as hard as possible, but the bottom air vents are squashed, don't mind too much as they are for the rear feet.

Do you have any other picks of the whole thing when you took it apart? Could use some to figure out where all the bits go.

Thanks, Andrei

I had the same thing, until I realized I had not fed the big grommet between the bulkhead and the air box, once I did that and lined up the foot well pipes it shot in so to speak, then it was a matter of finding which bolt come from where.

Shame you don't live closer, I would have popped over.

The grommet seems alright, maybe the one that holds the pipes gave me a bit of trouble.

No pictures then?

I found this one if it helps?

Not bad, I need one with more parts on please.

There is a weird metal frame under the box that comes out both sides I cannot seem to find the place for.

Just saw it in the picture, the one on the right attached to the pillar on the right.

I fitted it wrong on the inside.

That's fine, the previous one showed me where they go.

I did manage to brake something, or maybe it was broken from before.

I'll try and put more bolts back today, still a mess in here.

Thanks,

Andrei

Any idea where this goes? Found it on the floor.

That looks like one of the control rods for the flaps, as to which one, I'm not sure, sorry.

You could try www.onlinemanual.com and look for Skoda Octavia then under heating and ventilation, you might find it there.

The part you found broken is a flap actuator and they are pricey, you might be lucky and get one from fleabay.

Hi Andrei,

Did you manage to get your dash back together?, and is it all working?

Hi, sorry for the delay in answering, got distracted with other things.

Got it back together but it still doesn't work, refilled with gas, everything seems fine at first but the next day all the gas was out.

So I am back to square one, don't have the time now to take it back out but could use the evaporator you have to check if there's any other leak, that is if I take it apart again.

That's ok, I just wondered that's all.

I do still have the evaporator here and it has no leaks was perfect when I took out the A/C system.

If you still want it PM me your addy, and I will post it, wont be till next week when I'm back at work and can get a box for it.
