VAG VCDS-Lite - are these readouts ok?

Featured Replies

I've borrowed a friends VAG KKL lead (i think its from ebay) & installed the VCDS-Lite software on my laptop (no mean feat, had to install XP Mode & get the drivers to work!!)

I'm trying to see if my Air Con has thrown up a fault code as its stopped working (see this thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/279842-air-con-has-suddenly-stopped-working-need-help-trying-to-find-cause/). The software scans my car ok & gives me the following results:

Even though the software isnt registered, is it displaying all the faults? By the look of it, theres no AC fault.

But, what are thoses faults shown? Should I be worried?

Thanks

Because it isn't a registered copy autoscan doesn't work, it gave up after the first two controllers.  You need to go and check all of the controllers individually - look at the list of controllers that autoscan would check.

On the upside you have no faults stored in the engine or ABS controllers.

So, can i check for Air Con faults with an unregistered version of VCDS?

(This is the first time i've used it, so pardon the dumb questions!!)

Yes, on a mkI Fabia (which isn't CAN based) you can access all the controllers, you just have to do it manually.  If you have more than one fault in a controller it will give you the code but not the explanation for everything other than the first fault.  Just look at the Ross Tech Wiki for the codes and read the explanation.

I would be surprised the air con had much diagnostics in it tbh

Scan the Auto Hvac module and see what you get.

Right, scanned the Auto Hvac module & got the following:

The Air Flap fault I know about, its been dodgy for years. Sometimes it works fine, other days it works then turns off & somedays it doesnt work at all. However, I pretty sure thats nothing to do with the air con.

Managed to check the voltage to the compressor - got a reading of 10.5v so theres power. Looks like the compressor has packed in then.

Just taken a look over at Eurocarparts & they have 3 compressors for the Fabia VRS. Anyone know why the 'Hella' compressor is loads cheaper than the 'Denso'? With the HOT30 discount code I could pick up the compressor for £200 which is pretty good.

have you looked at the measuring values yet? it should give you all the temps from outside, footwell, evaperator outlet etc, make sure they all look normal before condemming the  compressor. if any of the temp are missing or really far out it will stop the compressor from working due to failsafe.

first port of call before changing the most expensive part anyway, then get a pressure test done on the system to see if the pressures are ok (could be blocked filter in the condensor too).

Pressure test has been done and gas levels are good.

what about the temp sensor readings?

No, not had those checked. Can those be checked via VCDS?

Check compressor load if you are happy everything else seems ok.
