Fabia 1.6 diesel 105 bhp Elegance 5 door

Featured Replies

I am planning to trade in my current car and return to the skoda fold with the above car. I previously had a Fabia 52 plate Elegance 1.4 100 bhp. I am wanting a reliable and economical car for work and occasional blasts on the motorways.

Is this diesel a good engine and good for mpg and reliable. Daily driving will be stop/ start journeys of 20-30 miles daily. Or am I better to go for a petrol?

Any advice would be great, thanks

I've got the same engine in a golf , I did have te fabia elegance previous , I've done 13k now and engine is bedding in lovely I get on a 36 mile journey 75mpg especially in the present heat wave but it will drop when it gets chilly , so its an amazing engine and plenty of poke when required , oh I only use vpower nitro diesel :)

Hi

I have just bought a Fabia Elegance Estate 1.6 TDI CR 105 bhp with faults, see my posting.

I think the Elegance is better than the SE because you get proper Fuel and Temperature dials together with climatic aircon, especially useful in hot weather.

The car has fancy 16-inch alloy wheels with low profile tyres.  The down side is that the ignorant sales people, only interested in bonus, will tell you that you can buy a full size steel spare!  This is not true because I know to my cost!  The only steel spare Skoda sell is 15 inches in diameter.  I am trying to get a full 16-inch spare alloy but not sure, if it will fit into the tyre well with respect to the height because my previous SE Estate had 15-inch alloys, which stood proud of the well because, I think, the alloy wheel was wider than the tyre!  On the 16-inch alloy, this is not the case.  Hope this makes sense!

At 20-30 miles a day I don't know that you will get the full benefit of a diesel engine. I'd try the diesel and the 1.2 Tsi to see which you like best.

I too was a bit alarmed to see that my spare was only 15" as my car is on 16" but was reassured that the tyre size has exactly the same running circumference as the low profile 16". It is however just an emergency spare. Better than a tin of squirty stuff.

Don't buy the diesel for stop/start journeys, you will clog up the DPF.  ( I have 1.6  105 ) Its a good engine but likes long runs about 15k a year is the least I would consider.

Thanks for all the advice, I will check to see if the smaller engine comes without the filters else will look at the petrol option which is likely to be better for the type of driving I am now doing.

I have the 75bhp version and love it, i do less miles than that which is why i am going for a remap and a DPF removal, the elegance spec is just lovely and a lot of car for the money. Good luck

I do about 12000 miles a year and have had no DPF problems whatsoever. Infact I havent noticed it doing a regen in ages!

I have the same only in SE trim on a 2010 plate. Bought it in Jan 2013. The regen light came on three times in the first few weeks of driving and gave me quite a fright followed by a bit of a blast down the motorway to put the light out.  I joined the forum, modified my driving style and the light has not been on since. I only total about 8,000 a year ( now I'm a poor pensioner) but a regular 8 miles down the motorway to visit the daughter seems to keep the light off. This car has put a smile back on my face, engine and gearbox are great.  I would have thought that so long as you can get in a regular spell of uninterrupted driving. it should be OK.
