Late night eBay = Skoda ownership

Featured Replies

Hi,

Recently (Monday) took receipt of a 1972 S110L after getting carried away on eBay.

Thought, "Oh what have I done," for a while, especially after the first tentative drive. My normal runner is a Volvo 240 estate auto so it was quite a new experience. However from then on it has been a hoot to drive. It sounds great and handles brilliantly despite the brakes being very different compared to the 240 and a floaty dead spot in the middle of the steering. These things are easily overcome with practice and people seem to like it pootling about the streets.

It is far, far from perfect but it goes, eventually stops and really is fun to drive so what could have been an expensive disaster has to date been bloody brilliant.

So, that's why I'm here, am still awaiting some form of disaster but I'll deal with that as and when.

Hello :-)

Did the same in Feb, got a Honda C90.

Not licensed to ride it, so it's just sitting in the shed.....

does it look similar to thispost-73816-0-18308200-1373758194_thumb.jpg ?

If it's driveable and you can get there, you should come along to the Briskoda national meet at Shakespeare raceway, Gaydon, Warks on Sunday 28th from 9am :)

Oh yeah it's quite ratty already, see for yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9THJhuiD4Ls

The engine is peppy enough for me tbh, the brakes however do need uprating. Need to find out more about this.

That actually doesn't look too bad TBH. Are the hub caps original? They look it. Looks like it's been stored somewhere as the rust, if any, seemed minimal. Started on the third crank I think? Original rubber floor mats, all be it with some wear but it's 41or 42 years old! You sounds a bit West Country :D A good T-Cut, polish and wax and she'll be mint ;)

Mind if I ask where you found her and how much?

Ebay, too much. Here, http://r.ebay.com/4h2p3b

I think that is the only original floormat, no idea about the hub caps, starts very quickly to my mind. All appears pretty original but will have been tinkered with over the years for sure.

Looks not too bad in my mind TBH. I like the original colour under the boot/ bonnet. For something of that vintage, I think you got a bargain TBH. Any signs of rust underneath or along the sills?

Yes, quite heavy sill rust o/s/f and under the battery but got through an MOT in April and the rest of it is a bit dented but on the whole remains reasonably solid. Yet to have a real good look at it as I'm enjoying driving it so much I don't want to put a dampener on things.

Come autumn I'll lay it up and have a thorough investigation. That's the plan...

I hope you don't mind but I've taken the liberty of alerting daverapid to this. I'm sure he'll be very interested and willing to give you some assistance. :)

He's also a big part of the below site and Skodanuts ;)

Oh yer I once bought a piano off ebay late one night when I was completely rat-arsed ... And then my mates though it would be funny to contact the seller and tell the little dear old lady that I was going to come and collect it the next day and pay cash for it. So next day hung over and still 30 times over the limit with eye balls that were bright red I drove the 300 miles to Aberystwyth to get it... It's still in me shed to this day....

One of my mates bought a 8 foot plastic elephant on my eBay too, that got some strange looks going round the maccy d's drivethru in frome in the back of my pickup I can tell you, we dumped that in a his front garden while him and his mrs were away on holiday, but we filled it up with quick drying concrete for a laugh

'kin legend :D

most I ever bought on a drunken ebay bout were some brake shoes for a MkII Ford Anglia. I sourced em for a mate who sold the 'kin thing before I got them without telling me.

Mind you, I did buy my Skoda Speed Camera Testing Vehicle sticker on a whim. That's gonna go now thatnks to the bitch in her Freelander who fekked up my rear bumper on monday. I think I'm getting a Chevvy (lacetti) as a renter.
