WOW: 16,000 mile Rapid convertible on ebay

Featured Replies

Nice!!

Bet that goes for silly money.

I don't think it's as original as the seller says....its obviously had bodywork done on the rear arches because they haven't put the black stripe back......I have asked if all the paint matches but so far I haven't had a reply. It has had welding done to the jacking points though.

No doubt the Czechs will turn up and pay a couple of grand for it because they are getting rare now.

Just checked the bids on the convertible and it "is no longer available"

Someone has snaffled it!  Anyone on here had it?

You're on the wrong forum....Benjyp10 (Julian) on the owners forum has bought it....he has a bit of a collection going.

Any ideas what it changed hands for?

Not exactly......but rough area yes. It's not really my place to say though.

He is referring to the online community, www.skoda-forum.com, rather than the Skoda Owners Club GB, for that you want to head www.facebook.com/groups/skodaownersclub/ .

Hi Guys,

Yes I have bought the Cabriolet, I have a collection of very low mileage Eastern European cars....it's purely for my own enjoyment. Sorry if anyone else was after it. At least it stopped it leaving the UK.

Cheers

Well done, hope it's a good car!

The ebay desc was poor, any more photos?

Will post up when it lands next week...plus its history..

I've bought dozens of cars off ebay, sometimes it's best to get it bought when you see it-if you have a few RWDs you'll know what you are doing.

I will be really interested to see pics and hear more about it!

Congrats, Julian! :)

Does LDD still offer bits for a Lux? I'm sure you'll need a new soft top, too. A nice gem though!

Not sure i know what I'm fully doing!! I know the cars reasonably well so could spot dodgy area etc, but tbh this one is same family from new, bill of sale, off road 1997 to 2012 which is documented. It will need a thorough check over replacing rubber bits n bobs but should be relatively sound and very rare...

Who is LDD? Does he hold hoods, again this one appears sound, but good to know they could be got?

The Cabriolet lux featured fixed side windows that someone at Skoda thought made it somehow better than a standard Cabriolet.....personally I thought the standard Cabriolet looked a whole load better.

Mm not keen on the Lux...prefer T bar version.

The Lux suffered less buffeting I understand.

Thanks for that-I bet those Lux rear quarter windows are scarce!

I think they were polycarbonate, so should be easy to replicate.

The Skoda Rapid Cabriolet was made in the U.K. by Roger Ludgate, of LDD in Kent and around 500 were made from 1984 onwards.2 types were available, the standard and the Lux, which retained modified rear quarter lights. They were for the U.K. market. Other conversions were available abroad.

Cheers

Ah, thanks for that. I'm hoping the hood is good, will let you know.
