Odd Braking Phenomena After Repairs...

Featured Replies

Hey all

The warbeast has displayed a few odd behaviours after recent servicing to the brakes.  The rear pads and discs have been changed (one calliper had to be changed too, grr).

I know it takes a bit of time to bed the brakes in, but they are no where near as sharp as before.  They also feel as though they are sharper initially and within half a second become less effective - almost as if they have been released again.

Any idea what the issues might be?

Cheers in advance

Danny

Good chances there still air in system.

Best take it back to dealer/mechanic unless you know what you're doing.

If the caliper was seized it may of given the false impression of a solid pedal,i must admit my mk 2 octy brakes dont feel as sharp as my mk1 octy vrs did.

As Aspman said, i have seen people on here saying you have to presure bleed the brakes and not the old fashioned way of pressing the brake pedal. something to do with damaging the abs unit i think.

Certainly seems you might still have air in the system. The dealer who done it should re bleed them again.

Right, brake fluid needs attending too.

I also need to sort the NS disc out, as it is rubbing slightly.  Great!

Thanks for your replies people :)

As above... make sure they use a pressure system to bleed and not by pumping the break pedal as the ABS unit can be damaged that way!

Also there is a procedure to bleed the ABS pump through VCDS if there is any chance air has got into the system... should be ok though if they've only replaced one of the callipers as long as they didn't let the system empty itself completely while doing it.

The reason that you pressure bled and do not pump the pedal bleed is that with pumping the pedal you can damage the seals in the master cylinder by taking them outside of their normal area of use.

Problem solved.

The piston on the new caliper was stiff. Once loosed up, it now brakes like new :)
