Petrol VRS V Diesel VRS

Featured Replies

I'm sorry, but there is no way you can get 42mpg from the tsi whilst 'hoofing' it. I can get that with an extremely light touch but in comparison got 7mpg around Castle Combe (now that was hoofing it). For a spirited 18 mile run, I would expect mid 20's.

Oy! Computers dont lie, right! Never managed to repeat this, mind.

Only reason people buy a diesel is they cant afford to run the petrol they really want.

  • It seems you will need to drive the petrol sedately to achieve decent fuel consumption in that case whats the point of a VRS, it makes sense if you dont care then its a no brainer.Otherwise have the b

I'm not denying that you got 42 mpg, I'm just saying that there's no way you were hoofing it as you say. It's just not possible.

I was absolutely ragging it. Computer error. Not mine.

Different car but shows how driving style makes a difference.  Gloucester to Silverstone in a 2.0 litre (160ps) Civic, not trying to drive economically but staying within speed limits - 37mpg.  When at Silverstone driving around the Stowe circuit as fast as possible - 17mpg.

I don't believe some of the claims for the 2.0T Vrs.

Some of us petrol owners are missing the point. When I good mine, I'm lucky to see 26-27. I've just driven from Cardiff to Shrewsbury up the A49 so a mix of slow steady and wild overtaking bursts. I could have got 35+ but is have been 20 minutes later. I could have gone quicker but not with two teenage boys with me. You really don't buy a petrol to save money, just that when you are not in the mood is not that bad.

I agree with the computer error bit......work with computers all day long and you find the counter to be about as accurate as a sun dial on a rainy day...The only way i measured one fill up was from Germany to the m25.....averaging about 120kph to 130kph....(legal in most countries).....430 miles from full tank to 2 notches before empty.....now that for me was an accurate measure of how far the tank could go.....

Cardiff to Walsall to Dunton. First leg no cruise, M50 so made "good progress" which btw is much much quicker than a 320d. 2nd leg cruise set to just over 70.

Petrol vrs + shark.
