1.4 16v 100bhp elegance steering and braking faults

Featured Replies

Hi my car seems to pull to the left, the ABS and traction lights flash on and off whenever it hits a bump and normally stays on until I hit another bump in the road.

Yesterday the heaters went VERY warm before those lights came on.

I cant hear any noises from the braking system however there is a few grooves on the left hand disc, and the right hand brake pads look like they are being chewed !

I either put this down to knackered brakes or the steering angle sensors? what do you think?

Abs sensor do you think? A job for vagcom maybe?

Update, car started beeping at me and showing the handbrake light (flashing). What does this mean?? also my brake discs have turned brown and i dont know why :|

Help !

There is corrosion on the outside of the discs and the caliper so i am going to wire brush as much as poss to try and improve airflow through the disc however im a bit stumped as the car turns left on its own normally however it seems to be the front right hand brake that is burning because i can feel the pedals getting warm too

Oh dear :|

You need to go ahead and completely strip all four brakes, blow all the old brake and clutch fluid out, wind the pistons back in, clean up, grease the sliders and fit new pads and discs where needed, then completely replace all the brake and clutch fluid.

Oh, and STOP driving the damn thing before it kills you or worse, someone else!

I stopped driving it the night the lights came on (last night), however all discs look fine, left hand one has some grooves from grit thats about it, pads look like they have a lot of life left but may change them for piece of mind - calipers look terrible is it worth either refurbing or renewing them ?

And will bleed the system and refill this weekend :)

It turned out that this was a result of a dirty ABS sensor and a groove embedded into a disc (disc is still fine for purpose) and the sensor was cleaned with WD40 - all is well now !
