312mm Brake Setup Question

If you are ordering from Hills ask for Mark, mention my name and Briskoda and he assures me it'll be a bit cheaper.

May even be worth the mods giving them a call for an affiliate solution.

I think I probably win the prize for getting naffed off with the standard brakes in the shortest time... so if anybody needs to change them or wants a spare set of 288mm disks, pads and calipers that have only covered 2.5k drop me a PM

Similarly, I thought the best bet was to go with new 312mm disks even though a lightly used set were included with the calipers I sourced, so I have a set of 312mm disks with about a 1mm lip on them - if anybody wants to collect them from me (north london) they're welcome to have them :)

JUT - did you run them in, as the first 1k on mine were basically scary. Done 9k since and it's a LOT better now, slowly building up trust in them again.

I would like to try the 312 upgraded brakes at some point if I can, much more feedback apparently but it's too much money to just spend, loose warranty on and add to insurance cost just coz there may be a bit of difference to me :)

First 1k - :thumbdwn:

Next 1k - still slightly offputting

500 miles more - decided I'd had enough of the vagueness and swapped them :D

PS I have had a couple of occasions since fitting them where people have failed to watch where they're going on roundabouts or at junctions driven out when I had right of way, and after changing my underwear I have thought to myself "worth every penny, the standard setup wouldn't have been enough just then..." :D

I'm only jus under 2.5k on mine.

As for warranty I don't think that will be too much of an issue, they are genuine VAG parts and not a bodge up. I doubt the insurance companies would be bothered either.

Tnx for the feedback :)

Hmm, I'd check insurance company. They have their funny ways. As for warranty - it will void the brake system & related parts. Totally agree though, they're better quality and so on so it shouldnt, and IMHO if they're really that much better then why didnt they just fit them as standard :( Sux that.

Cost!!!

I'm sure you're right, the Insurance companies like to take every available opportunity to rip your trousers down to your ankles.

Ok - forgiven I suppose. :P

I drove my mum's Fabia vRS last night to pop down to the shops and I was really suprised at how bad the standard brakes fealt compared to my 312's.

They just feel so wooley... I forgot how much I hated them on my car!

If you can afford them and are at all bothered about the feel of your brakes, get some 312s.

C'mon Josh, you're just teasing me now!!

I can't wait until I get mine on and see the differance.

I've SOOOO gotta sort out my finances quick. Blimmin cars are starting to cost me money ;)

On the plus side, SWMBO has decided to pay half of the 10k service cost (as I'm skint, and I'm driving her about to work & back a lot). Wooot :D

SWMBO just had hers done - just under

Nearly twice that :( - 170 I was quoted, but I do get a free courtesy with sufficient fuel to get to work and back in (which is about 60 mile roundtrip, taking it from the dealer).

Don't mind giving them the work to do, if they continue to treat me like they have done they deserve my business.

Once I go further down the modding path though, they may not be doing the servicing any longer, hard to be sure ;)

Hmm - will have a word then, it's the first service and I will be doing 20k easily, easily this year.. Tnx for info

:iagree:

Hammerite does a grand job.

Is there a paint code or something for this paint? or is there just one smooth green hammerite.

Also what sort of prep is required?

I looked in our local B and Q on Sunday, they show it on the display bit didn't have any. It is a Smooth and is very close to the standard Skoda green.

Just "smooth green" hammerite. There is another green which I don't believe is the same. But the smooth green is a startlingly good match for Skoda vRS green.

I best get me some green Smooth Hammerite then! ;)

Yup! :D Got mine for about
