steering wheel removal and handbrake cover removal

Featured Replies

hi i've had an account here before but lost the password. yesterday while at the breakers yard i spotted a 52 plate silverline with the leather steering wheel and handbrake cover and i am wondering how easy are they to remove as i only had 5mins before they closed they are asking £18 for both and my car is a classic on a 52 plate.

cheers

I recently changed the handbrake and leather cover, as my pup labrador chewed the handbrake leather and chrome release button, + the gear-knob and leather also.

I removed the central console to access the bolts holding down the handbrake to replace the whole thing, the used handbrake+ leather.

The leather cover is separate and held in place with an inner plastic protrusion inside the leather cover that spring into place onto the handbrake lever itself.

You could try and give the handbrake leather and good yank to free it from the handbrake lever itself, but run the risk of breaking that little inner protrusion holding the leather place in situ.

I have seen the handbrake leather being sold separately on E-Bay.

To recap to remove the handbrake itself complete with leather cover is no 5 minute job, unless to cannibalise/destroy the central console.

steering wheel there are 2 holes in the back you hole it at 90 degrees one way. put a screw driver in and release the clip, pop the airbag off one side then turn 90 degrees the other way and do the same. there are 2 earth wires and a firing plug i believe then a spline that holds the wheel on. ..... if you search cruise control retrofit then there are a few guides knocking about that include steering wheel removal ....

then as above for handbrake
