Columbus satnav

Featured Replies

Help needed please,

I've just brought myself a 2009 Skoda Columbus satnav unit and was wondering what is the best way to get hold of the '2013 maps with SPEED CAMERAS and RED LIGHT CAMERAS' and how you activate 'Video in motion'?

Also, is the main dealer the best place to go to for the dash surround trim panel?

Cheers

  • It usually runs for about 5-10 minutes after switching the engine off to help cool the unit down before switching itself off.

  • You can usually go straight to it. I went from a very ancient 1004 to 3814 in one go. I'm not sure of the functionality on 2724. I think it might be new enough for 7digit searching. As I recall from

For my Columbus install, the likelihood for me finding the right trim in metallic grey with manual AC for an FL Octavia was slim, so I had to buy from my local dealer. Not cheap by a long shot, £47 (including 10% discount).

Again, you'll pay a fortune at the dealer for maps update, but I believe they're now available online. There was a link on here fairly recently,  have it saved on my work PC

Thanks for that fidgec94, if you can find that link and let me know that would be great. Cheers

It would be great if they did though.

Just some observations as you are an adult and free to make your own decisions:

the map versions with speed cameras is an unofficial release;

v.9 maps are (I believe) a VW release, not a Skoda one;

Downloading maps (excluding the link above which appears genuine) from the Internet is illegal as they are copyrighted;

Using VIM would be illegal if the driver can see the screen.

I'm not making any judgements, just passing on information which I hope you find useful.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of. My Columbus maps are already up to date, so I just saved the link and didn't read any of the discussions. 17 Gb would be a hefty download to find out it doesn't work.

Thanks for the link Throttle Up, I'll have a look into it. My unit has V3 installed.

KBPhoto - I didn't realise that the Speed Camera maps update was unofficial. Would the latest VW v9 map update work in the Skoda unit? VIM would be for the kids, not me.

Yes they do work. I believe they are unofficial.

Please, please, please, Further help required. I've installed the Columbus however the fan remains on and I'm aware of battery drain from looking through other posts. Where can I get the link to the VAG-COM owners to see if there's one in my area? Plus do I need to buy a new canbus to sort the issue or will a simple re-programme do?

A further also, is there a way to get the parking sensors to show on the screen, like on the STREAM radio?

Thanks Guys

It will be either a new CANbus or finding modified firmware for you Columbus (search this forum for links to that and look on the 'My GTI' website).

If you have the parking sensors appearing on your Stream then they will appear on your Columbus with no modification.

At least mine did.

But mine were retro-fitted.

KB, nope they don't show. Think it's the issue between PDC and OPC, if I've got that right.

I'll take a look at those links, cheers.

As I said, mine (front & rear) were retro fitted and worked on the Stream MP3 & Columbus with no issues.

I suspect by retrofitting though you installed the newer module from the outset. The pre fl cars with existing sensors use the older module which then leads to the extra work.

Anyone have the latest Firmware update on disc and is willing to lend it to me? I can only get 4 digit postcodes and I'm running v3 of maps. Not sure what firmware I currently have and whether I'd also need an earlier update.

You would need to know which revision the Columbus is as the firmware you use is revision dependent. Sounds like it needs doing though.

It should say on the back or if you're lucky and its been enabled, press and hold setup for a while and it will tell you.

I've noticed the fan running on the columbus after turning the engine off but no idea how long it runs for and the car has started fine each morning over the last month. Older canbus battery drain issues sound like they manifest fairly quickly, so I haven't worried about the fan much

Adam, the code on the top is: 3T0 035 680. Don't know if that's the number you're referring to? I'll try the setup button trick tomorrow.

I left the car for a good 45mins and the fan was still running, so I've taken the radio fuse out for now as a short term fix for overnight. Looks lie further help is required.

There is a version letter needed. But from the part number, I don't think yours is an A revision which is the file I have sorry.
