  • There is already a thread about these maps on this forum and there is still some doubt as to whether those maps will work on anything before the latest 2013 MkIII Columbus. It would be great if they

  • It usually runs for about 5-10 minutes after switching the engine off to help cool the unit down before switching itself off.

  • You can usually go straight to it. I went from a very ancient 1004 to 3814 in one go. I'm not sure of the functionality on 2724. I think it might be new enough for 7digit searching. As I recall from

And one more. Please tell me this is the info that is required to confirm if I have the correct gateway.

Apologies for the pictures being upside down, don't know what went wrong there.

can't say i have seen many P version, those cars with the P didn't have the newer radios. So don't know.

Probably worth fitting the radio and see what happens

Ed,

Radio fitted tonight, so I'll see in the morning what the result is. Looking at the link KB listed above it shows that the P requires replacement as update not available. Thoughts?

I have that gateway and there was NO battery drain. It was possibly covered by the firmware upgrade which I think now deals with battery drain.

That's good news, what firmware upgrade are you running?

Well I initially went to 381x, then 402x. In my case, these were the ones modified for an A revision Columbus.

I think benjamino may have a 'C' revision Columbus so the modified firmware might not be applicable.

Ross Tech have been known to provide some misleading information on their website (I have a steering controller that shouldn't support CC, but does) so maybe a 'P' revision is one of those.

I've sent him some unmodified firmware for him to try at the weekend.

Fingers crossed for the morning though...

I actually thought it was a B revision but either way, you are right mine is no good to him. Hopefully yours is.

i got my secret menu up by unlocking the car after being parked up and locked a while (20mins).

climbed into the drivers seat (didn't insert the key) pressed the power button on the head unit, then pressed the setup key until the new options came up(about 20secs. mines a 3T0035680A  hw -H11  sw-1304 obviously im in need of a upgrade too.

The 3T0 ones with no suffix letter I'm fairly sure were 'C' versions with LCD screens whilst the 3T0...A ones were revision 'C' with LED screen introduced late 2009.

I'm no Skoda Columbus guru though so may be misinformed.

If a Columbus becomes 'bricked' what is the solution? Does it need to go off to an Audio specialist to be reset? This hasn't happened to me, I'm purely asking just incase something does go wrong!

It might need a new HDD I guess but I think it only happens if the unit is knock off and been tampered with to get around a missing code, or you use the wrong firmware version. I don't think it happens too often though so don't worry.

If the firmware doesn't instal properly there is a 'downgrade' download available on the My GTi website which should help.

As Adam said, I've not actually heard directly from anyone on Briskoda who has bricked their unit with firmware undated from sensible sources.

A HD change should sort that and there is an excerpt photo tutorial on the net with lots of pictures about upgrading the HD in an RNS-510 to a SSD. http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f78/rns-510-hdd-replacement-ssd-swap-diy-60984.html

Time to find out just how good a friend the guy you bought the Columbus from is...

Good news is, the car didn't have a flat battery after being left for 13hrs, which is great news! Maybe the P version gateway is ok afterall, only a longer period of time will tell.

KB - Bits arrived today, so I'll give it a go later and report back.

That was quick! They must have just caught the post yesterday afternoon.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you today.

You could go straight to 4xxx firmware as others have done, or do 3xxx first (it creates 3 partitions: maps, POI & music). Either way seems to be OK.

KB - Firmware update in progress, fingers crossed. Then all I need is the maps updating!

  • Author

Firmware............ DONE! And no issues!

Just maps left to do.

Maps are easy and much less stressful than firmware.

3xxx or 4xxx?

  • Author

Went for the 4xxx. Maps still downloading and it's already been 2hrs!

It goes quicker if you drive I believe. I think with the ignition off the data transfer is slowed deliberately to save battery drain. But shouldn't take too long now.

Glad you got it sorted mate, just need to get some music on it now!!

She's been sat quietly in the garage like a good girl. Lets hope it's not too much longer, don't fancy a flat battery due to a map upgrade.

I don't recall it taking more than an hour for map updates!

I don't want to worry you though.

I'm currently driving around to try and get it done quicker! It spat the DVD out and then took it back in so I don't know if it's completed it but as I didn't remove the disc it's doing it again?!
