city safe and windscreen replacement

Featured Replies

Unfortunately after today's national meet a stone hit my windscreen and resulted in an 11 crack across my windscreen.

Now autoglass said they can replace the glass but know nothing about the city safe device.

Will I need to take it to skoda for it to be recalibrated?

Brilliant. Cheers for that

Had mine fitted by auto glass 10 days ago

Started of as a.chip

Guy on the phone said they would bring a screen just in case told him k had the city safe no problem I was told

Phone call next day to say they had to order a screen "oh and by the way what is this city safe "

3 weeks later they finally ordered a genuine screen as they do not list a pattern part

Genuine screen back ordered what started off as A chip is now cracked top to bottom of screen

Nice Bloke fitted screen last week no damage And city safe working fine

Yh after a bit of a balls up (Autoglass didnt call me back) I walked down to the Autoglass depot (right at the back of where i work) and i spoke with them. They said "the camera or laser system wont be an issue" but it will be done tomorrow morning at 8:30.

So im looking forward to getting it done. When i get home today I will upload a picture of my windscreen that i took yesterday.

So i have just collected the citigo from Autoglass and as i was driving away i found the Ticket holder on the windscreen is loose! and will no longer hold any sheet of paper!

Shall i have a moan at Autoglass?

Definitely.  They haven't done the job properly.  Could be a case of the windscreen not sitting as far into the hole as the original one.  If so, you could get leaks.

I have found with each new car I have had the windscreen cracks within a few months happened on a fiat panda, 500', Octavia and fabia all went within the first few miles and the replacement seemed much stronger I wonder if they get stressed somehow when first installed at the factory.

I took it back to them. They reckon the Ticket holder clip has broken so they are ordering a new part and will call me when it has turned up so they can fit it.

maybe a placebo but i heard something hit the windscreen last night and there no sign of any kind of mark! It would be interesting to know princeprawn whether your right!

Taylor, might be easier to replace the clip yourself, only takes a few mins. If you collect the clip from Autoglass we could do it Saturday evening.

Well im on my 3rd windscreen in 6 months, this time its a non vw brand, interesting to see if it is any stronger.

Anyone know how to remove the City safe sensor cover? Does it clip on the bottom, top or sides?

As I said in another post, new screens much be really cheaply made or made differently because I know and heard of so many people within the first year of ownership needing a new screen.

My old fabia screen even after 104k was fine, had a few very tiny chips but no cracks!

I've posted a rough guide to removing the City Safe sensor in the technical section. its quite easy.

Just had the windscreen replaced in under an hour. He used a nifty wire that was placed around the windscreen and tensioned to cut through the mastic. Just got to wait for the mastic to harden enough so we can drive it.
