Wood or aluminium trim

Featured Replies

I have a Combi Elegance on order, and assumed I would get the aluminium trim with the onyx interior. Have I assumed correctly? I saw a fl Elegance parked up yesterday and it had the wood.

The wood is (or was when I bought mine new a year ago) an optional extra.

Wood is Awful plastic wood, the Alloy is plastic too, but is also standard.

Al.

The nicest effect wood I ever saw was in a B6 Passat and it was a USA spec car, but it had this nice light to medium coloured wood sort of like a dark maple with the grains etc and imo it really lifted a dull interior,

But to answer you I would go metal effect rather than wood in a Superb, hth.

As 2009 Elegance owner with a black interior, I chose a wood finish.  I felt that it warmed the interior up a bit, whereas the metal strip finish made the interior feel colder.  I am still happy with my choice.

Wood has no place in a car unless the car is also made of wood.  And then only if it's real wood, not some awful plastic wood substitute.

Mine's onyx + 'wood'. The trim is perhaps my least favourite feature on the car, though from pictures I've seen I do think it suits the interior much better than the light-grey alloy. There must have been a better alternative, though, such as a plain dark brown or black finish. They're fooling no one with that.

Did they not offer a piano black or was that just for the L&K?

Mine was 2nd hand, so I had to take what I could get, but that sounds good.

Just checked - L&K gets "Piano black decorative inserts" - brochure pictures only show wood decor though :wall:

Doesn't show as an option for any other models though - wonder how much they would be to retro fit? 6 pieces presumably - front doors, rear doors and dashboard.

Maybe it was a wooden piano?

My elegance was black leather with the awful fake wood by default, but I paid them an extra $90 to change it to the shiny plastic.

How easy is it to change the trim ?

It just levers off, you have to be gentle though.

I disagree, while it may not be real wood, is quite good and lifts the whole ambiance of the interior. The wood in loads of Range Rovers is also fake plastic wood trim, I know as I used to work for the company that made all the interior trim for them.

The plastic "metal" trim I would think would reflect light at night time and could cause distractions while driving, so I have gone with the wood trim on mine and have again ordered my new one with wood trim, even if it is fake.

My Business partner has the silver trim in his Superb and get a bad reflection in the side mirror when the sun sines on it. Not had that at all with the wood trim in mine

Just as I thought it would, one of the reasons why the instruments are "buried" deep in the dash cowls is to try and prevent reflections on the glass. You can often have the sat nav screen rendered useless when the sun is at the right angle to strike the screen and all you get is a reflection from it wonderful. So I rest my case, wood is it would seem the best trim to have on the dashboard and well worth the extra £150 just on the grounds of safety.

Whatever the obvious value of the overall product, to suggest that one bit of crappy coloured plastic worth £150 more than another bit of crappy coloured plastic is great value is, I'm afraid, nuts.

Aged 50 or above - wood effect plastic.

Aged 49 or below - aluminium effect plastic.

I've had none of that with my silver trim - too busy concentrating on the roads.

An expert piece of scientific decision making based on nothing.

That would be me and you in the lower category then silver1011.

I chose the ‘wood’ as I think ‘aluminium’ trim in a non sporty car looks wrong, glad I did as well, oh and I am ‘well under’ 50.

ATEOTD everyone has different tastes, just be grateful you get a choice.

Or have all interior trim pieces wrapped in 'piano black' vinyl............

Or just take it as it comes and enjoy the car :giggle:

Wood should be wood in my opinion, as seen in Rolls Royce's and Bentley's where it is a piece of craftsmanship, suited to the character of the car. It just looks plain wrong and cheap in anything else!

Hope I don't go over to the "wood side" when I hit 50 in October! but I very much doubt it.
