Amp Advice

Featured Replies

Hi looking for some ideas as to which 4ch amp to get. I'm looking to get Hertz DSK 165.3 & 130.3, read up seems to be coming in the best to replace the stock speakers unless you have any other suggestions for speakers. I use the boot fair bit to chuck everything in including the dog, so plan is to house the amp in with spare wheel if can get one small enough

Jl audio xd amps are like 10"x7

I have a xd400/4 and xd600/1

Both are under the floor

Speakerwise.... Depends on budget :)

Focal do some shallow mount ones

I have jl c5s and i cant rate them enough

Amps look good.

What sub you running xd600/1?

Jl c5's lil pricey for this car myt look at them for my mk2 tho thanks. Budget for speakers probably bout £300 for front and rears

I have 8w3v3s :)

Jl c2s are around £120 a set :) iirc

Another vote for jl audio amplifiers. They are top notch.

I added 5 farad cap. result bass much deeper tighter less boomy.

why do you think one of my hi fi amps has 40,000mf of power supply capacitance.

the higher farad in a car is due to lower voltage.

Hey lol :drunk:

My power caps been with me ages , it was a huge help when had earlier installs with twin 15s and other big power amps

It made light dimming less..... ish

Certainly does no harm

Plus he must me close to retirement :giggle:

I had the first power cap in Cardiff.

That was nearly 20 years ago lol

Ears have never been the same after around 133 db

Short of a secondary, isolated battery (charge only - no engine drain), they can be a useful addition. Many however, leave a lot to be desired...

Its a nice stinger from....

Sometime in my younger years lol

However, old caps aren't so likely to be great. Big aluminium electrolytics tend to go a bit crappy over time. They certainly have a finite life.

He is fine :)

Mustve had a few hours use lol

Either way all sounds nice and is in its home

For now until i change it randomly :D

i've never been a fan of capacitors myself for bigger installations, i prefer to use a uprated alternator and/or a split charging system.. but to be fair there is more than one way to skin a cat as they say..

i'm certain my hearing is starting to fail, i work with large pa systems and various sound stuff for massive outdoor events/theatre/festivals etc and i'm sure the sound pressure levels ive been exposed to has damaged my hearing

I do have a yummy alternator too

I did the 90's in various fields clubs and my car.

If theres much background noise I can hardly hear these days.

I paid about 250 for the power cap. I think they had just come out for car audio. Iirc it was a monster cap. I bet they are about tuppence hapenny these days
