Fabia mk1 Elegance

Featured Replies

HI All,

I am looking to get a set of all 4 done before the winter.

The current tyre size is 195, 50, 15.

What would be a good all rounder, lasting a long time, good performer in rain.

The current tyres are unknown brands to me, Speedlife (Rears) and dexetro (Fronts)?

I would say Pirelli, as I had them on my old fabia, but different tyre sizes, and they are still on the car (So for done 30k miles on them, 20k whilst on the front, then got changed to the back, and done another 10k miles)

Most of the threads in here seem to be about the Vrs' and couldn't quickly find anything close.

No harm applying recommended tyres for the vRS to your car.  No real difference to be honest.

Your current tyres are what I refer to as "wosnames" - basically cheap rubbish, but probably sufficient for the average car.

Might be worth checking out www.tyrereviews.co.uk as based on actual driver experiences.

Thanks for the advice. I will check out the other threads and gather some ideas.

I have fitted Falken ze912 and now 914s to the wives Fabia and will continue to do so. I am pleased with the performance to price ratio. The only time they feel a little out of their depth is on soaking wet roads and I'm really pressing on. In normal commuting driving they are great.

I'd suggest Uniroyals,  (Rainsport 2s or RainExperts). or some Vredesteins, (Hi-Trac or Sport-Trac). However are you looking for Winter tyres, all-season, or normal 'Summer' tyres?

I've got Uniroyal RainSport 2's on mine (205/45/16) and can't fault them in the dry or wet really. Very grippy in the wet.

£63 or there abouts each on Camskill + a couple of quid each delivery.

Flippin 'eck they're even cheaper than that,,,,,,,,,,,,by a LOT! Damn you 205/45/16's :(

Strangely, I've just been looking on Camskill. In his size you can only buy RainExperts: http://www.camskill.co.uk/m53b0s288p97415/Uniroyal_Tyres_Car_Uniroyal_RainExpert_Uniroyal_Rain_Expert_-_195_55_R15_85V_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_71dB I'm sure they'll be just as good as Rainsports.

I also saw they make Hi-trac 2 (currently out of stock), and we've used them on our other Fabia. I'm not sure what the newer Sportrac 5's are like, but had previous ones (Sportrac 3s).

Remember those prices are only for tyres, they don't include P&P, fitting, balancing (and disposal).

They're hidden in there, Jim. You need to scroll down the right hand side and choose the brand which then gives you this page

If that's right, £72.50 delivered, for 2 tyres is a proper bargain! :D

Anyway, we'll let the OP decide what he wants.

nearly half the price of 205/45/16's :(

Rainsports always get a good write-up so I'm sure you can't go wrong there.

Another alternative is an all-season tyre. I'm currently running Goodyear 4-seasons but I'm considering Vredestein Quatrac 3's.

The all-season tyre seems to work well for me. I don't push the car very hard at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I've gone for some Dunlop Sport BluResponse. Will be having them fitted tomorrow, and let you know how these go.

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Dunlop/Sport-BluResponse.htm for 195/55 R15 V are £61 per tyre fully fitted. Which appears to be pretty good!

Main reasons to go for them, fuel rating seems good of a C, wet grip rating as an A and noise levels at 67db. Also being Dunlop being a well known brand.

For the record my fronts were Dexetero's and the rear were Semperit Speed Life's. Both within the budget and economy areas according to http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/

Well given these new tyres a chance to bed in, and get a good feel for them. Done about 1500 miles on them.

Overall very pleased with them, a lot more grip and much improved MPG. So Win WIn on that.

In heavy rain I haven't noticed any issues and didn't notice any issues.

It was £60 per tyre, so it didn't even break the bank.

I did however get a screw in one of the tyres, but that was repaired free of charge (Nice friendly local garage). First time that I had changed a wheel in just over 3 years of driving.

The other thing that feels strange is the soft sidewalls of the tyres. It does make the ride much softer and just something to get used to.

Many thanks for the suggestions anyway.
