Just saying hello from Milton Keynes

Featured Replies

Hello!

Just ordered my Black Magic Fabia vRS with cruise control on friday 1/07 and should hopefully have it by beginning of september (I have to wait for 2 months to pay of my VW Polo first and I wanted a september 05 new reg also)

I cant wait to get my hands on the new car as I will be getting twice the power compaired to the 1.2 65ps polo.along with so much more torque and handling :D

My family has always driven VW right from Golf Mk1 and we have come to the conclusion that VW are being a bit optimistic with their pricing and are losing a grip on some of their loyal customers because of this. I had originally looked at the polo sport and GT and felt that for the money I wouldn't really be getting anything more than if I went for the fabia. Similarly my dad went to look at the new Golf GTI and whilst it is a lovely car the Civic Type-R offered better performance and styling for less money along with renound Japanese reliability.

My mum is still 10 years behind in her opinion of Skoda although my dad who went with me on the second test drive said had he known about the Fabia vRS he would have bought one of these instead of his Civic Type-R (based on performance and economy combined).

Anyway enough of the rant :D

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Being at Milton Keynes you wont have to go far to find good customer service as that is where the HQ for VAG is.

Good choice of car.

Welcome to Briskoda.

Welcome from me too. :)

Yeah I realised after I posted I should have put '55' . I ordered from Pilling and whilst I don't have a huge amount of car buying experience as this is only the second car I have bought I felt like I wasn't given a hard sell and instead I got some good advice and a good deal compaired to some internet prices I have seen.

I had been to the MK and Seat dealers in MK to get an idea of differences between cars and was given a bit of a hard sell from both, they were trying to get deposits out of me and all sorts before I had even made my mind up. So a big  to Pilling and we will see how I get on after the 10k service.

I noticed from some posts I have read that Ross has left the forum or does he go under a new username?

Welcome to Briskoda, Grubb.......

MK......i know it a little.........

with reference to the better handling etc you'll be looking forward too....

erm, IIRC, MK is laid out like an american grid system.......the only roundabouts you got are the two that lead down from the motorway jucntion, past the BP or texaco with the dodgy carwash on the right (as you enter MK).....damn thing ripped my octy's aerial out a few years back

And as for gridlock.........

Don't think you'll notice that much improvement unless you get out on open road........

Not knocking the place too much, and I could be out ot date now.....

(hope so for your sake........ ;) )

Roundabouts are plenty in these parts and as for gridlock ... well you only get stuck if you dont know where you are going. I have lived here for a good 19 years now so know all the short cuts and the one good thing about the grid system is you can go around heavy traffic areas fairly easily.

I pass through the two roundabouts near the Total and Junction 14 every day on my way to work and they do get a bit ridiculous at times but again I know my way around and can usually tell how busy it will be before I get stuck.

There are plenty of long stretches of dual carriageway and I don't spend a great deal of time driving in MK anyway as I'm ususally off towards Buckingham or Oxford and up and down the M1 between Northampton, MK and Luton so I get plenty of longish journeys. The one thing I am looking forward to is being able to get back up to speed quickly with all the stop start driving because of all the roundabouts, it takes an absolute age in the Polo to get back up to 60/70

Welcome from me too! Just wondering, i'm going to the Oasis concert at MK Bowl this saturday, anywhere safe - and free! - that i can park my silver VRS?

Welcome from another Milton Keynes member

Gridlock? What gridlock... :)

Most places are safe in MK near the bowl although you wont find much if any free parking. You could risk parking in a residential area although I think the council are clamping down on this as I have noticed a big blue sign at the top of my road stating that unauthorised parking during events will result in a fine or possible removal of vehicle etc. There is a pub/travelodge near the lake at the bowl and a few offices with large car parks about 50 yards away that sometimes charge for event parking at a slightly lower fee than that of the bowl.

I would offer to let you park at my house as I live 5 minutes walking distance from the bowl however I'm away this weekend and we already have 4 cars on the drive so you would have to park on the road at the front of the house and I wouldn't be able to keep watch in case the tow truck comes round.

Hello!

Haven't seen you about on the roads yet although it's only since I ordered my vRS last friday that I have started noticing more of them although I think we are still a rare breed.

Wont have my car until september so until then I drive a black Polo and i'll give you a flash (of the headlight kind ;) ) if I see you.

Thanks for the offer anyway, shame you're going away, it would have been nice to have left the car with another Fabia Vrs admirer, sure you would've taken care of it (as long as would've resisted the temptation to go for a spin of course!)

I would have taken very good care of it (and only moved it if I needed to get one of the other cars off the drive  )
