Norfolk, sloppy driver capital?

Featured Replies

I've lived in west Norfolk a whole month now.  In that time, the car has recieved two car park scrapes.  One enough to dislodge the headlamp, and now a 6" long crease down the osr door.  Needless to say, no notes.

So previously pristine car looks like a combatant in a banger derby.

Perhaps the alarm bells should have rung when I was asked for £1000 damage deposit to hire a local van for the final move.  Seniors in Harborough asked for £250 for three days.

If we didn't have the longest miles of anywhere, I'd consider an old Defender or piky transit.

Depending on whereabouts you are, if probably say its the higher density of older drivers from my own experiences!

Actually, when I went to the tip again today, I realised that I always park in Cambridgeshire, so it must be the stupid blind of Cambs to blame.  Sorry Norfolk.

Yesterday I had my first view of the poor blighters as they hove in towards the coast, looking fraught as they crawl with their caravans up to the silly roundabout on the Wisbech bypass.  Still a way to go & Kings Lynn next.

Get a dashcam! Report to police/insurance, then laugh as they pay dealer prices to repair your car!

IMO, people who do this in car parks should be punched hard in the gut!

Accidents happen, but walking/driving away is i) an offence, and ii) a ci_ints trick!

A dash cam that will view 360 degrees, and at the bottom of the doors?

These are just the stupid, careless marks sloopy, uncareing people do, not a crash as such.

You sound as peeved as I am!

Noticed another couple of "door" dents yesterday.  Poo!

You in Wisbech?

I blame the laid back attitude as when ever we go to my parents locals seem almost horizontal

I was waiting in the waitrose car park in Norwich the other day, a 60 plate Golf came along and parked right next to the trolley park. Even though there was plenty of space elsewhere, the elderly driver got out and was waiting for his wife to get out.  She couldn't get out as he had parked about 5 inches from the barrier and was bashing the door in to the barrier. He got back in and drove to a different location in the car park.

A lot of us elderly drivers in South Cambs are OK.

I generally look out in the local supermarket car park for drivers who drive SUV's etc and have no testicles!  Purely for safe parking reasons of course!

Since my Mrs got a blue badge we can use the extra wide spaces in supermarket car parks, saves an awful lot of hassle. It seems these days the usual spaces are for kids' tricycles.

Pity we lack so much space. In the USA you could often park a truck in each mall space!

Best bet, if you can walk okay, is to park way off in the distant corner somewhere, preferably where at least one side of the car is alongside a flowerbed or something.

Also, try to park alongside really good looking, well-maintained expensive cars. They are usually less likely to drive off like a dodgem, taking your wing with them!!

Beware the beaten up rusty white van covered in bird "artwork".

Back when I was 21 and driving a lovely Prelude 2.2 vtec, I came back to the car park and found that some old geezer was waiting for his wife next to my car. His arm must have been tired as he'd put all four of his shopping bags on my rear boot and spoiler. Needless to say, I flipped my lid. He seemed almost surprised!!!!

Heads up - think I have found your culprit...

Two or three villages away from Wisbech.  With an excellent chippy and Indian Take away!  (Outwell's chippy is dire).

South Cambs?  Would I go via Alpha Centuri?

For a region which is all wide open spaces and a low population count, why are the carparks always full?  And the bays so small?

At least they are free.

I was here 3 weeks before I heard an accent which was not Lunnun or Migglunds.

Maybe its the incommers?

I'd have got in and driven off very quickly before he got a chance to reclaim his bags
