pics of vrs on springs

Featured Replies

As the title says im jus lookin to see wot a vrs looks like on lowering springs with standard shocks (just becos im thinkin coilovers mite be too much of a hassel)... so if u cud upload some pics id be very greatfull thanks...

To be honest mate. I was in the same place as you. But I bought springs. I refunded them because I though "if youre fitting springs, coilies are actually the same if not less hassle. The whole lot has to come out for springs anyway. And coilies you can set the height how you want.

Most spring heights don't change the appearance that much in my opinion anyway.

Ive got coilies arriving soon

Do it once and do it well and be hapoy with what youve spent your dollar on :)

Just advice. I have no pics lol

I was going to order some new shocks and springs but decided on coilovers today. The work involved in fitting them isn't much more then changing all the springs.

Another reason is because the shocks and springs that i was going to get would slightly lower and improve the ride, but it would not look low enough to be noticeable.

Ah rite so for the extra cash its guna look and handle better on coilies rather than just springs..

if you want to go low get coil overs ...
if your happy with standard ride height and just want less body roll go for springs

And back on planet Earth...

Looks are irrelevant imo, the only reason to spend all that money

on suspension upgrades is to improve handling.

Once you've made the car too low you end up nannying it about anyway

in case you drive over a crisp packet and catch your sump.

Lowering a car for looks is just like the womens shoes scenario IMO,

My wife buys shoes all the time that  look very very nice and are shiny and

sparkly with little trinkets of joy attached, bows and buckles and the like.

But... She can't walk in them for more than 5 minutes, often going barefoot

and carrying them?? (eh????  :o :o :o)

If she has no choice but to walk somewhere and she leaves them on then she

complains constantly about how sore her feet are and also usually injures

or damages her feet in some way.

As a result of many years of this abuse her feet are either black with dirt where

she's been walking around barefoot (phwooar??) or injured and sporting a shrivelled

plaster (double phwoooar??) If you saw her feet you'd be convinced that

they belong to a Vietnam POW by all the scar tissue on them.  (treble phwoooar??)

All of which negates the point of pretty shoes in the first place as she now has plates of

meat like Gollum (quadruple precious phwoooar??)

Artists impression and not Mrs grrs actual feet but you get my point...

The best thing she could do to make them look nice is to put some socks on so

I don't have to witness the horror...

So in summary, pretty shoes that look great but are impossible to walk in and often

end up being carried around are as useful as a pair of trousers that are so

tight that if you want to sit down wearing them you have to take them off and put them

on your head instead.

Smart looking car thats so low you have to travel over a speedhump at 0.0002mph

holding up other people with your 'performance' car, so low you damage your wheelarches

and tyres when you've got 'Fat Dave' in the back and so low you can't get your car on your

own drive is also pointless IMO, it's not like you'll be hacking around

at any velocity when you're that low just in case you come across a thickly painted line on the

road and rip your undertray off. Also not so cool when someone in a 1.2 Fiat panda

hands your arse to you in a bit of a 'race' through the town centre because his car whilst looking

a bit naff IYO is able to whoop you soundly because it can make it over and around the everyday

obstacles presented by urban driving. That's gotta hurt too LOL

They are good for scene whore photographs and thats it.

(My old car on -25mm springs)

SAM_1386.jpg

Im with grr666 on this, springs for GO, coilovers for SHOW.

even with 30mm springs mine catches speed bumps so they are low enough

Must add although grr666 makes all very good points there is another side to coilovers which everyone seems to forget about and thats if you are genuinely intersteded in taking your car on track and getting the most out of it then a decent coilover set up is the way to go and having it professionally weighted etc.

But yer depends what you want the car for, mine started off going the track route so i bought ap as a mid range budget set up for handling and ran them at a reasonable hieght and could still cruise over speed bumps with ease. Now its gone the other route lowered more with new wheels and now it clunks and rattles and to be fair it can actually get over most speed bumps with no much stress but gets caught out on awkward side streets that dip and twist on street junctions causing the front to scrape but i love it still. There are some out there who will just buy joms and take them apart to get them super low for looks and nothing else, they dont care about harsh ride, noises and sump scares they just like to look at there car and admire it and personally i love theres people like that as it gives me something cool (in my eyes) to look at when im at shows.

Mines lowered on the kw shock and spring combo

Always thought you was on coils. Sits really nice on that set up fairplay.

Thanks Joe, nope no coils here. Was thinking about getting some for track days and things though

Although it still looks like a monster truck compared to a car on coil overs

Mine on coilovers. Not stupidly low I've got the helpers in the front and adjusters in the rear but imo how it should sit. Agree with gr666 to some extent but I've had shocks and springs or just springs on every other car I've had and I've always had to go slow over bumps but that might be I have more mechanical sympathy than others? I would of gone for just springs but my personal opinion was they wouldn't take it low enough and that's not me wanting to be "scene" I just know how I like my cars to sit and for me it is more about looks

How low is this?? I'm looking at ap shocks and springs but they only lower it by 25mm and thought it wouldn't be enought but I like this

25mm drop is perfect in my opinion, lower then i expected.

I have the same AP kit

Looks lower than I expected I didn't wanna pay £400 for ap coilovers and was put off by mixed reviews of jom and the likes of. Also dont wanna ruin the ride as I like how it drive but the arch gaps are huge is the handling improved much??

The new suspension along with a Whiteline RARB has completely changed the car, I have not felt like I'm about to fly onto the passenger seat when taking a corner or going around a roundabout since

The stock suspension didn't make the car feel very sporty because of how it handled, way too much body roll and even harsh braking made the back end jump up, the RARB has stopped that

I was considering the coilovers as you can see from earlier posts in this thread, but then i would have needed to change a few more parts as well and it would have cost a lot more then £400, easily over £500
