Diesel power, new induction kit

Featured Replies

I got my new Typhoon k&n induction kit fitted at the weekend, it's a great bit of kit and really easy to fit. The performance gain from it is nice and its loads more responsive, plus the flutter from the turbo through the bulkhead is addictive.

Well worth a buy, and here it is fitted.

Looks pretty nice too

Very nice indeed! Where from?

Are you sure it give a performance gain? or is it just a noise gain? it will also probably cause heat soak without some kind of cold air feed.

It's sucking hot air. That is not a performance modification.

It might be :) Downwards.

Dyno results?

Definitely an increase in performance, none of you have ever looked at a standard diesel air box. There is almost no restriction compared to an air box and the heat shield does a good job of taking the heat away from the pipe and cone.

I haven't had it dyno'd but from the feel of it, it is noticeably more responsive and accelerates more quickly.

Thats right i have never looked at a standard diesel air box, well apart from the one thats sat on my drive right now.

Your heat shield also appears to be black, which will take heat in not reflect it.

Your heat shield also appears to be black, which will take heat in not reflect it.

So you will see that the majority of the air passes straight pass the intake, and that the box is restricted by the small intake pipe.

Also that the thick black plastic air box will absorb a lot of heat from the engine.

Either way, it's loads better.

So CAI prob the best way forward then?

You do know that diesels aren't air throttled?

Trying to increase air flow does not give them more power or torque.  Especially when you feed them warm air.
