MDI Retrofit

Featured Replies

Has anybody considered retrofitting the MDI interface yet?

I miss not being able to use all the iPhone features, so will probably have a go.

Do you mean the Mitsumi interface that replaces the USB slot in the centre console? I'm not sure if the Octavia stereos are compatable with the MDI units from previous models, although it does look visually similar if not a lot smaller. Can you not control the iPhone via Bluetooth?

Not being an Apple user, I just have  a load of music on an SD card or USB stick.

I'd be interested to know what you find and what can and cannot be done with the new units.with regards to addtions and modifications.

what can you not do spiceman, as I may be in the same boat

Very limited control of iPhone music via BT, can not search for alblums artists etc; having to stick on random or just select one album. Also phone contact control from steering wheel is very limited.

I had full intergartion on the Mini and I do miss it.

As far as I'm aware fitting the MDI or whatever equivelant will certainly give you better control of the music and media functions of your iPhone but will have no impact of the telephone functionality as it will not connect that way to the stereo -It only acts like a docking station but you could still have the telephone connected by Bluetooth. As stated I'm not an Apple user so I'm not fully aware of all of the fine points of any possible solution for you.

I have an Android phone (Samsung S3) and the Columbus unit and it connects and integrates very well -I can navigate to my telephone contacts as the sat-nav can understand my address list, and the voice recognition works fine as well. I haven't really tried music streaming a great deal other than just to play with it to see it working -I've never bothered to put any music on my phone.

What software are people using to transfer from iphone to SD card, there seems to be a lot of mixed reviews?

You don't need to transfer from the iphone, the songs will be on your computer

I thought you needed some extra software to convert music bought from iTunes?

I thought you needed some extra software to convert music bought from iTunes?

No, you can just drag and drop tracks from iTunes to a folder or sdcard. The only issue I've found is that the album art will sometimes be stored in .png format instead of .jpg and some units won't display .png.

An MP3 Tag editor will normally help solve this if it bothers you though.

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead but has anyone managed to add Mitsumi after the fact? Ordered the standard usb but didn't really appreciate the downsides to SD card vs iPhone.
