Cisco Training Courses

Featured Replies

i've been booked on a "Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices" training course.

i was just wondering (seeing as we have such a depth of talent on here) if anyone has been on this course or ones like it for Cisco equipment?

i dont have a very strong back ground in networking but am trying to read up on as much as possible so i dont walk into the course not knowing what the tutor is talking about.

i'm hoping to be able to get my head round it pretty easily as i quite fancy a future in this line of work and would deffinitely like a career in Cisco installation/support some day.

Thanks in advance to any info / advice.

Your best bet is to buy the ICND course book and have a read before you do the course/exam.

i think thats the one my dad looked into! i think it was about 2.5k btw

Yep got the books sat on my desk, however been a while since I did it and we are (or at least were) a Nortel site.

read up on basic networking IP subnetting, OSI layer and you should get through it.

Good luck :)

I use boson network simulator(about

Seconded. Research as much as possible on basic principles and you'll understand the course a lot better.

CCNA exam isn't too bad if you end up doing that after.

I have just started a computeach course, but its the Microsoft network Prof course, decided to go with that one to start as I'm more used to the microsoft side of things.

But that will be a grounding to go further with it if needed.

Yeah the courses are expensive. Try amazon for the books - they cost roughly

Thats what i'm reading up on atm. the company i work for are funding the courses and exams so i'm sorted there. just wanted to know all i could before going on the course in october.

Thanks for the info / encouragement though guys.

The ICND isn't really too bad to pass. I passed it couple of years back at 978/1000 in under 30 minutes. Earlier this year started my work on towards getting CCNP with multilayer switching and passed that with 1 month preparation @875/1000.

Best advice I can give you is read the book once or twice with serious thought to it, meaning that rather than memorise it you'd better understand it. Second is to get a hold of a boson test for the exam. For me the boson test was an evaluation tool on wether I understood the stuff or not. That way used it was very good.

Some ppl tend to memorise the stuff from the books and boson, but I don't personally understand the benefit of it. You'll only end up looking like a jack ass at work if you do it that way.

And for the record, don't expect to get paid big bucks just cuz of the certs - money will come if you prove worthy... I've proved worthy but am still waiting for the money ;)

I'd agree with jlindstrom, the Boson tests are very good and are a great way of getting used to the Cisco style questions.

Send me a PM if you want more info, etc.
