New vRS Injectors

Featured Replies

Hi All,

First time on here, even though on my second Octavia vRS!

I recently took delivery of a MkIII Octavia vRS (Diesel, in race blue - factory spec) and within 4 days and only 167 miles on the clock the engine developed an unusual and not pleasant sound like a knocking whilst under load (pulling away - generally accelerating). I took the car back to the dealer and to be honest they were very good and gave me a demo octavia elegance as a courtesy car whilst they investigated my complaint.

After swapping engine parts from another vRS in the showroom to try and identify the root problem, it turned out that the fuel injectors were faulty! They have since replaced all four injectors and it seems to be running ok, we have only just filled the tank after its initial first tank of fuel and its averaging 40mpg, which is where I would imagine it to be of its first tank, and after everything the poor thing has been through!

I was just wondering if anyone knew of, or heard of this fault on the new 184ps diesel engine or is just a one off?

Other than that, I'm loving the new car, just getting to grips with the new tech.

Cheers

I have also posted this in the newbie section (rookie mistake!)

First time I've heard of that problem, but no surprise there, there can only be a handful of MK3 diesel vRS in private ownership!

What do you mean by 'factory spec'? Is this a dealer demo model or did you order as a brand new car from your dealer?

Glad you got the problem sorted, keep us posted.

The car was from stock, (presumably first batch that the factory put together to get on the salesroom floor shortly after its Goodwood launch) so had no choice in options other than colour. The demo that I drove from the dealers that I bought it from was a Black diesel DSG one, and they also had a white one in but that had been taken.

Hopefully, fingers crossed the injector problem was a one off, I'll let you know!

More impressions and pics please!

I've not taken many photos of the car yet, but here are a few that I have, if the weather is good at the weekend I'll get chance to clean it and take some new photos.

Impressions? Very impressed, as an owner of the previous gen vRS, this one is a step in the right direction for me.

The handling is really well resolved, and nicely damped, it almost feels softer than the last one until you press on a bit and you can feel the car just dialing into the road - a case of good electronic trickery I guess. The 'turn in' is a little odd at first because it feels almost too sharp, and doesn't need as much input to the steering wheel as before, but I've got used to it now, and it makes the car feel more pointy, if that makes sense?

The new front seats are the star of the interior, just lovely, support where you need it and not too pinching where you don't! I've still to get to grips with all the additional driver menus and just generally having a play around with different settings.

As for the mode button, (vRS button) I'm not convinced, but my car is the manual and I believe that it has more impact with the DSG gearbox.

My only slight disappointment is that, in the front lower part of the front cabin, the previous gen car had carpet lining high up the transmission tunnel and this one doesn't, I know it will be a matter of taste to some people, but the plastic that's there now is a little cheap feeling, but suppose that's how weight is saved.

Other than that, this last week has been squeak free, and the whole family love the room on offer inside the car. I'll try and keep a record of tank to tank full ups/mpg as the weeks pass and keep you posted.

I looking at buying the same but not sure on the brochure mpg and actual. Let us know what mpg you get. I'm using it for work and do quite a lot of motorway driving. If your only getting 40 then that way off the brochure estimate...appreciate knowing and any other info you think might help me buy a skoda!! Cheers

What year was ur last vrs? How would u compare the power of the new one again the old 170? Much difference?

Hi, my last vRS was a 61 plate, and it was a petrol, so I have no comparison with the previous 170 CR, sorry.

Like I say, I'll be keeping a tab on the mpg on a tank to tank basis, as I find that the car computer is usually optimistic, but not as much as the manufacturers can be.
